Sounds like he’s grinded out a lot of labour intensive jobs though

I was stabbed, beaten and robbed in Baltimore

@davev8347 It does, but nowhere near the rate it does in America. Check out crime rate by country…look waaaaaaaay down at the bottom. That’s where you’ll find Japan. Also, Takeshi is interviewing Japanese people. Do you suppose crime is not covered on the news daily in Japan? It is

@davev8347 I speak from experience. I’ve lived in Japan since 1988. I’m grateful for the life I have here. The government doesn’t know I exist outside of tax season. I comment when I see something that counters my experience. It gives people a broader perspective. People can check out crime rates by country if they’re not convinced by anecdotes. Why does it bother you that I was a victim of violent crime in America? Don’t you think I have the right to speak about it after going through such a brutal ordeal? What an uncharitable callous comment. Feel better about yourself now, David? Glad I could feed that darkness in your petty shrunken heart

@SirFingerLickin I’m sure there are plenty of safe places in the US. Jamaican people are very friendly and warm, too. Jamaica has a massive crime problem. The fact remains that outside of 3rd world nations the US has the highest violent crime rate on the planet. There’s no comparison between Tokyo and any major US city, New York, Chicago, LA, Philadelphia, Detroit, St. Louis etc. Out of all those cities there’s only one you can feel safe in any neighborhood at any time of the day…Tokyo

I was stabbed beaten and robbed in Baltimore. That is what shapes my perception

Everyone knows about that. Try sticking to the topic at hand

@andresmattos7541 No, you don’t need anyone’s permission to spam all Japanese content with irrelevant comments. That doesn’t mean others can’t call you out for being off topic.

You assume that they don’t…they do

@iakona23 It was 1980. I was 19 and naive. I learned the hard way that America is not safe.

@SirFingerLickin It depends on where you live IN AMERICA . Not Japan. That was my point. Also, believe it or not…I live in the world, too. I’m not sure what online fear is. I have no fear of the Internet. Baltimore? Now, there’s where you’ve got me. Detroit…I was stuck in a greyhound bus terminal once, that was dicey. I’m sure there are nice neighborhoods there, too. But, there are certainly many dangerous ones too, to pretend otherwise is…well…to pretend

On average the Japanese work 40 hours per week

@SirFingerLickin Japan has prisons full of criminals including murderers. No one claimed crime doesn’t happen in Japan, guy. I’m talking about whether or not you’d be safe walking down the street in ANY neighborhood at ANY time of the day. It’s not that difficult a point to grasp.

@iakona23 I was 19 in 1980. I was attending a training camp for the Baltimore Skipjacks, a minor pro hockey team. I was athletic and capable of handling myself in a fight. I was also naive. I dropped in for a couple of beers at a sports bar around the corner from my apartment. When I left three guys followed me, one stabbed me in the back, the others knocked me to the ground where the three of them kicked me in the head and ribs. Luckily the knife hit a bone, but I ended up with broken ribs and a fractured skull. I didn’t make the team. I’ve only been back to America once. Our high school had a student exchange program that was facilitated by Michigan State University. I took three days off to go home to Toronto. I took the bus. The bus was one of the saddest buses I’ve ever been on. Transferring in Detroit was terrifying. Greyhound bus terminals in America are full of transients and low end criminals. I’ll never go to America again. Never

@SirFingerLickin The OP claims that anywhere is dangerous, it just depends on where you live. You agreed. I disagree. Anywhere in Tokyo is safe. That’s not true of the American cities I mentioned.

@yashio4214 I make less in Japan than I did in Canada, but home ownership is out of reach for the average Canadian. The average cost of a home in Toronto is 1.3 million, the average cost of a home in Tokyo is $350,000

Japan also has many foreign restaurants owned and operated by foreign residents, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Greek, Italian, French etc. especially in Tokyo
