You can do what a lot of maufacturers do and send a sheet with every OEM part that tells you this is a compatible replacement part for these old part numbers, and any changes they need to do when installing them. Or do the GM one and make the new part have the exact same part number as the faulty one, and simply start introducing them into the spares chain to dealerships, so that nobody, unless looking at manufacture date on the outer plastic bag label from the OEM (often lost along the way) to see if it was made after, and by the plants that were making the upgraded part. If you got the old one, tough, put in yet another known to fail ignition switch, and pay for it to be replaced a time or three again, till you got by accident the upgraded part less likely to burn up.
