  1. Isn't Ukraine reluctant to invade recognized Russian territory for the same reason that NATO is unwilling to deploy its own forces in Ukraine: fear that it would provoke the Russians to escalate to nuclear war?

I wonder if any Ukrainians are willing to let Russia keep Crimea simply because they think its demographics (ethnic Russians were a comfortable majority even pre-2014) would make it more trouble than it's worth to reintegrate? (Unless they expect that by the time the war ends, the West will have been so enraged by the Russian atrocities that they'd greenlight the mass explusion of ethnic Russians from Crimea, much like the expulsion of Sudeten Germans from Czechoslovakia after World War II...)

  4. Isn't "i" pronounced like the "i" in English "machine" while "y" (и in Ukrainian Cyrillic) is pronounced like the "i" in English "bit"? You may be confusing the Ukrainian sound transliterated as "y" with the similarly-transliterated Russian sound (ы in Russian Cyrillic) which is pulled further back in the mouth compared to the Ukrainian or standard English sound.
