Can confirm. Was at the range getting qualified on the M60E3 (no optics mounts), and guys were getting yelled at for single shots. Didn't have enough ammo available for me to get there, but I was very happy getting 3rd bursts every time.

I'd miss the longer range from 7.62 NATO or x54R, but I wouldn't feel under gunned with an RPD!

@molokofreak clunky ergonomics, usually heavier than western equivalent. Mostly the ergonomics, as far as I am concerned.

@ManOnTheRange ? I said ergonomics, (edit, I'm an idiot) not weight. Buttstock is obnoxiously short, especially for me, safety on western equipment is reachable without breaking your firing grip, and is notably quieter. My previous comment was 7.62x51 or 7.62x54R having better range, and me missing that. But otherwise being perfectly happy with a belt fed 7.62x39 weapon.

@ManOnTheRange blargh. Need more caffeine. Note that I said usually heavier. Nice that the RPD is the exception that proves the rule.

@ManOnTheRange yeah, the M16A2 is far too heavy. Thick barrel really added a lot of weight. I have an XM177E2 clone (12.5" thin barrel) and it's 6.5lbs or so, 3kg. That's what an AR is supposed to weigh. Not 9lbs plus 4lbs of extras.

Really depends on how strong your eye dominance is. I'm left handed but right eye dominant, so I learned to shoot right handed. I can shoot left handed but not well.

I'm guessing eroded gas port. But I also wouldn't want to crank up the gas past port 2, just in case.

@LikePhoenixFromAshes you can find a PDF online from the US Army Combat Studies Institute Press. It's an English translation of Brigade Commander Georgii Samoilovich Isserson's history written in the 1930s.

@ManOnTheRange yeah, they do take some getting used to. I need to find a Vz58. I don't have a 7.62x39 rifle.

@Bee-N64 it's mostly to avoid blowing out your own ears while clearing buildings.
2
@davidcox3076 I absolutely must close my right eye to get any hits at all when I shoot left handed. It's not easy.

@LikePhoenixFromAshes yeah, the Russians even made airborne troops mechanized! I do love the BMD-4.

@LikePhoenixFromAshes the Soviet Operational Art is fascinating to read.

Thing is already running about 900rpm on Port 1. Doesn't need to go faster!

@josephking6515 I think that is just bad chemistry.

@keithmoore5306 probably helps that I'm left handed otherwise, in terms of fine motor control. And playing violin as a kid, though guitar would also work.

@Lalann mostly because everything that is "handed" at all is set up to be safe for a righty to use. Like a chainsaw, or even most circular saws. Motor is intended to be between the user and the blade, which it is if you use it right handed. Hell, I had one little league coach teach how to throw right handed because he had no clue how to teach a lefty! (This would have been mid 1980s) For a while I had more power throwing right handed but more accuracy throwing left handed. Then I messed up my shoulder. Haven't thrown a ball since, with either hand.

If you still have it, give it a new recoil spring.

The villages in Germany are 10 kilotons apart. It's also why the G11 only came with 150 rounds in 3 magazines. Troops weren't expected to live past that.
