The lower pressure would definitely make the gun more sensitive to dirt/gunk buildup.

182gr load at about 2500fps, iirc. Thumps with Much Authoritai!

@lordserpentine8246 depends on loading. The 150gr light ball round is a little faster (@40fps) than the NATO 147gr, but the heavier match stuff is not significantly so. 175ish SMKs are 2600fps from either. Where I think the x54R has an advantage is in the really heavy bullets. 182, and 203gr rounds. Especially the 200s, as those really take up space in the .308 case. But the x54R case has a lot more volume for powder so loses less speed. The 182gr loads leave the x54R at 2600fps, while 185gr leaves the NATO at 2500fps.

Practicing for Finnish Brutality. It's warmer on Hoth.

Lots more practice needed. In fact, there's no such thing as too much practice!

The pistol is probably a real pain to bring into Europe. A rifle is paperwork. Lots of paperwork.

@jamesallred460 if the targets are really close, inside 20 yards, try a trick from the 3gunners: c clamp hold. Thumb over the top of the handguard with your index finger going down the barrel (or down the handguard seam), middle ring and pinky under the barrel. Hold long, so your arm is straight. That way, you're pointing your finger at the targets.
2
@jamesallred460 no problem! The idea is that you know where your finger is pointing, so it's good enough at really short ranges. Problem is that it will block your iron sights, thumb is in the way, so it works better with optics.

@AkiSan0 and you have to find a pshrink that doesn't believe that the desire to own a firearm is in itself proof of mental illness. That's currently about 30% of the APA that believes that. Not to mention that the insurance requirement is nothing but a pure money grab that will never, ever pay out because it's prohibited by law from doing so. Legitimate defensive use? Won't pay out because the person trying to claim committed a crime. Not a legitimate defensive use? That means the shooter committed a crime, and your insurance won't cover that. Negligent discharge? Insurance won't cover your own negligence. Accidental injury from a firearm? Your homeowners or renter's insurance is supposed to cover that, but good luck getting the insurance company to agree that it was an accident and not negligence.

Will have to try that with my svt40. Sucks trying to load two stripper clips in!

That's the stupid auto balance in the microphone. I think it can be turned off, but I believe that it's also a default setting that you have to turn off every time you run the camera.
2
How do you tell which end goes into the rifle? Drill a hole in one end of the clips? Or just always put them in your pouches the same way?

This was filmed before the event was cancelled, remember that the match was 26December. I expect that Ian will show up for the late October match.
1
This is lots more fun! And still probably cheaper than peleton.
1
@alun7006 yes, but what kind of paperwork?
1
11th of 18 overall, and 12-18 had semi autos with scopes. Some bodies need more practice!
1
If you're getting hits all the time you can afford to move slower.
1
Yep, the rounds have the same external dimensions. But you may have some reliability issues, because 7.63 Mauser is significantly less powerful than Tokarev. So clean and lube the heck out of that TT33 first!
1
They're obnoxious with my Svt40. Especially since I need to jam two of them in there.
1
Might have even been a 30kg. Yes, they're pretty sadistic at the two-gun matches.
1
Airguns is another option.
1
@lordserpentine8246 sure, for modern loads. The same chemistry magic that let the .308 throw a 150gr bullet at 2800fps in a case half an inch shorter than the 06 lets said 06 throw that same 150gr bullet at about 3000fps. And the 06 has always been on the upper end of what's a viable battle rifle.

Really depends on how dominant your eyes are more than your hands, imo. One friend is horribly left eye dominant, to the extent that he didn't notice that he was losing sight in his right eye! He cannot shoot right handed, full stop. But I can do okay. I'm actually left handed but right eye dominant, so I learned to shoot right handed (scout camp range was smart!). I'm not a great shot left handed, probably need a lot more practice, but I can swap shoulders if I need to.

You match director is evil, Ian!
1
It's very loosely biathlon, but with both pistol and rifle.
1
For specific tasks, Bolt action rifles are still viable tools. Being on the "two-way range" is NOT one of those tasks.

11 of 18 overall, though! Which means that 6 guys with scoped ARs need to practice.
