LRDG's job was to go find out what the Axis were up to in the desert. The ideal LRDG mission was one where the Germans/Italians/Vichy never knew they were there. To really push this, the LRDG would drive into the deep desert and do missions towards the coast where all the fighting was, then drive out back south into the deep desert to break contact.
SAS's job was blowing up supply depots and aircraft.
The first couple of SAS missions, they were parachuted in but scattered all over hells back 40, with basically zero damage for a lot of captured and dead troopers.
For the next several missions, LRDG would drive the SAS close to their targets, drop off the SAS, and then go do the LRDG mission. SAS would go blow up whatever it was, then meet the LRDG at some point a few days later. That lasted for a bit, I believe until the LRDG patrol was wiped out and a whole SAS raid was lost.
Finally, the SAS got their own Jeeps and could drive themselves to work, and stop distracting the LRDG from their recon missions.
