  2. Higher velocity guns have thicker shell walls, which really cuts down on explosive volume. For example, the US 76mm tank gun held about 2/3rds the explosive filler of the 75mm.

  4.  @quentintin1  AA guns also need high velocity, to give altitude and to reduce how much you need to lead the target. The mg ff had a particularly slow muzzle velocity, too.
