  2. I avoid downtown. Used to go often, bookstores, theater, restaurants. It’s 50/50 whether you’ll run into trouble, have your car broken into. It’s bad in the surrounding areas now- a girl walking her dog was abducted at gunpoint and raped ( Normandy Park). Women and seniors getting carjacked or robbed at gunpoint in daylight. We don’t recommend going to the grocery store alone. We hear gunshots at night. Home invasions , 3 guys armed with pistols. Convenience store robberies in nice areas. Car theft. Drive by shooting of a daycare. Retail theft. Right down to gangs just destroying decorations on porches. Never used to be like this. I was at a drugstore and found a package of pedialyte torn open and two packets out of the six were missing. I handed it to the clerk as I was checking out. She took it and tossed it into a box full of torn packages. I asked- so this happens a lot? She said- all day long. Before I go into the Safeway, I scan the parking lot for any weirdness. Like prostitutes getting chased by their pimps or gangs waiting to target someone. This is in a suburb, not anywhere near the city.
