  3. If there is a sunny day, he sees his shadow and goes back into his den,and it means 6 more weeks of winter weather. If he sees no shadow because it is cloudy, it means an early spring. The tradition goes back to a Pennsylvania Dutch superstition of badger behavior being used for forecasting.
