They're allowed in the U.S. too, at least as long as you don't reveal anything classified. There are a few channels from active U.S. military members, including an F-35 pilot whose channel I follow.

In the U.S., the military has to turn people away when the economy is bad. I remember back in 2008 it was almost impossible to get in a couple branches and/or ratings courses, etc.

@catarinamelchiorgomes8750 - No, the KGB was split into three agencies. The FSB is an internal security agency (equivalent to FBI), the SVR is a civilian foreign intelligence agency (equivalent to CIA) and the GRU is the military intelligence/direct action agency (equivalent to the DIA). The only country that continues to have an agency called the "KGB" is Belarus.

@wisemankugelmemicus1701 - There's also the added bonus of the heat in Syria. Being deployed to the Donbass actually sounds a lot better. The other problem with being in the Russian military is having to deal with the Wagner guys who have their own agenda on the battlefield and, in theory, can undermine what the "official" army is doing. The Russian Navy, though, sounds like a pretty cool gig. A lot of their ships are insanely badass and you'll likely see a few interesting ports.
