For some weeks into the period of lockdown in UK, the organisation (SAGE) set up to advise the government how to deal with the viral outbreak did not have a single virologist within its ranks; nor did it have an epidemiologist. It did though, have a whole team of behavioural psychologists, the speciality of which was the 'changing of behaviours' by means of the bombardment of the public through various media so as to put them in that state of fear which would make them comply. One of the leaders of this team was Susan Michie, a prominent activist in the Communist Party of Britain. At one stage in a TV interview she argued that we might have to get used to using masks in public on a permanent basis. She has now moved on to chair of the Behavioural Advisory Group at the WHO. Go figure, as they say.
