The study mentioned by Professor Battacharya, he describes as detecting antibodies as a way of gauging if people had been infected. My respectful question, from a layman position: isn't there a waning of antibodies that occurs after the infection has passed its peak, so that the antibodies are, so to speak 'stood down' leaving the T and B cells to remain in that newly informed state of readiness? As I say, I have no clinical knowledge - it's just I am so bewildered by so many media reports that don't seem to add up and so I have looked into how the immune system works. I very likely have things still mixed-up but I keep feeling the need to ask questions.

"...and for the first time in living memory, we have a disease that can kill us." But surely, influenza is just one disease that kills many thousands of people every year?
