  1. It really is. Toxic positivity is harmful and unhelpful. You're entitled to your feeling and struggles whether your pain is physical or mental, and just because someone else is in a full-body cast, it doesn't make your broken arm hurt any less magically. When I was sobbing in pain before my fifth or so surgery, my doctor told me that I should just be grateful because he'd just diagnosed a 17-year-old girl with cancer. I was 23 maybe and just a few weeks later I ended on morphine. But yeah, at least I didn't have cancer, I guess...! Somehow, after 25 years of constant, severe pain and illness that has left me disabled and housebound for a significant portion of my life, that still doesn't help a whole lot.

  2. Thank you for sharing. After more than a dozen surgeries (the majority abdominal) and living with chronic, severe abdominal and pelvic pain, I got kinda choked up. I'm so sorry that you had to go through this, and I'm eternally grateful I've never personally had to have an NG tube because they are one of my worst nightmares. You can cut me open, cut bits out of me as much as you like... but an NG tube is still right up there on my nope list. Hearing an ex-marine say that this was the worst experience ever, that was... ridiculously validating. Thank you. Thank you so very much.
