  1. The EU is a victim of their own thorough democracy because they cannot kick Hungary out, a member state can only leave the EU voluntarily. Hungary is the most corrupt country in the EU, they get 42 points in the corruption index from 2023. Orban can destroy the EU from within if he wants and he is already doing well because all the far-right parties are behind him and they are already the largest party in some countries. Also in my country Belgium. In February 2022, the chairman of Vlaams Belang Tom van Grieken said that the party was so wrong about Putin. His party was infatuated with Putin and now he advised all representatives who were infatuated with him to leave the party. He thought he was a partner with Putin in the fight against Islamization, but he could not condone this violence from Russia. Ukraine must be helped as long as necessary. Ukrainian refugees were given priority, which was a good thing so he could ignore other refugees who came from the far east. One could literally select by skincolor with an excuse... A few months later he was already shaking hands with Orban. This year he shook hands with Orban a second time, he even calls him "an example". The Ukrainian refugees are now viewed by his voters as racketeers who endanger our social security. The party will not take officially take that position, but they will let their voters rage against refugees whether they come from Ukraine or not. So far for that hypocritic"as long as it takes" promise. Anyway, the thing is, Putin is not politically left or right, he is an opportunistic bloodthirsty psychopath who uses whoever he can use and when he no longer needs you he treats you to a spicy tea or a free turn in freefall. He is shaking hands with Orban, Xi-ping, Ebrahim Raisi, Kim Jong-Un. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. But both the far-right in the West (and probably also the-far left, but not in my country) and Putin have the same goals: to divide Europe through lies and fake news in order to undermine democracy. The far right does it to gain power in Europe, Putin to cripple Europe's support for Ukraine. First we had Covid, governments faced something they had never experienced before and made mistakes, fear and uncertainty arise in the future and as usual there are the populists who fully exploit this by spreading fake news 24/7. Social media increased polaritation, the government lost confidence and extreme parties benefited from this. Then came the war with Ukraine, the fear and financial uncertainty became even greater and the extreme parties liked to take things further by seeing the media and the government as guilty. The refugees who bring the war and wars with them are an extra that can be used as scapegoats. Putin is pounding democracy while it is bleeding. If Trump were to become the next president, things would look even stronger, because then that polaritation would grow even more.
