That's because there isn't supposed to be a country such as India in the first place What happened was, the British arrived at the Indian subcontinent, conquered all of various tribes of people living there, and proceeded to lump all of them under one super colony And when the British left, everyone they colonized there were forced to become one new country, even though many of them had nothing to do with each other The Pakistanis were lucky, in that there were many of them, and they managed to fight and get their own country Many others weren't so lucky, though It's the reason why there is no such thing as an Indian national language, but instead India has dozens of official languages
