0:14 What is "Xinmei Shen"? In Chinese culture the family name comes first. Her name is "Shen Xinmei". I don't understand why there is a need to butcher her name by turning it into "Xinmei Shen" You don't see Chinese media referring to Joe Biden as “拜登喬” (Biden Joe) to suit the Chinese, do you? Everywhere in Chinese media, his full name is rendered as “喬拜登” (Joe Biden), respecting his cultural norms So why is it when it comes to English media, there is an insistence on disregarding the cultural norms of the Chinese people? Why is it common practice to twist their names around to suit western norms? But more importantly, why are Chinese people going along with this? Why are Chinese people ok with their names being butchered just to conform to western expectations?

@xuejianyao4363 I can understand if this was CNN or BBC. They are western-owned, so Chinese people have no control over how they operate But this is SCMP, owned by Chinese people, but still it does this type of thing If you want other people to respect you, you first have to respect yourself Why would the west care if they are butchering your names, when even your own English language media is doing it
