It's a very old engine, notice Toyota made amends by releasing newer versions of the engine, and updated the old ones with newer parts as part of their service. Not clear enough ? All first version products, be it engines, or electronic devices have flaws. If you are old enough in this world, you know you wait for 2nd or 3rd iteration of that product in the same generation.

@sammyjammy6647 @Jason D Yep. 5k or 6 months. Oil is cheap.

For DIY, I wouldn't trust myself to do it. I'd just take it to the dealership or a reputable shop and be done with it, and sleep well at night. Something happens relative to that line, worksmanship warranty kicks in.

AMD, did the parts company send replacement engine for the one that had no compression?

In this scenario, technically it's the parts company who sold the engine. Parts company can then claim their bottom line against the moving company if they paid insurance.

I guess combination of current market prices (absurd), sentimental value (owner must have owned same vehicle in not so distant past with fond memories), and that parting with that amount doesn't lose him sleep.

Same engine, mileage and warranty ?
