The other problem can occur if the person at the service counter takes the returned part, lays it on the counter as he gives the customer a refund, then rushes to the restroom to take care of nature. Then the store manager comes by, sees the part (box) just lying there on the desk with no explanation, and puts it back in inventory, then goes back to work. Then the service desk guy gets back from the restroom, looks briefly for the box, then figures maybe the boss tossed it in the trash. Then, lacking sufficient intellectual curiosity (or monetary incentive), just gives up and continues on with his day, not giving a flip about where the part went. Years later, Rainman Ray orders that part and, blammo! Now there’s a big problem! 😮
