There were some limits of course, but in the old days the newspapers used to be widely different from each other and willing to make outrageous cartoon portrayals of public figures. As recently as the 1970's there were still 50 or more independent newspapers. Only recently have all the MSM (MainStream Media) been legally under the control of the CIA. As the Obama nation ended he passed a law making CIA (Deep State) control over the MSM legal. Before then it was illegal but they got away with it anyway.

All the "bad options" have in common the idea of centralized power where some small group do all the thinking and the rest are Dumbed Down and made into "useful idiots" for the system. Absolute centralized power corrupts absolutely. World Socialism and National Socialism are all about centralized power and heavy propaganda and no Free Speech... which are the bad options. So Far Left and Far Right are really the same in overall design, but just with slight differences in propaganda. Alt-Left and Alt-Right are essentially fake or "poorly chosen" labels. Since "Crazy" is the Status Quo the Alternative is Critical Thinking. Alt-Left and Alt-Right get to "Crazy" really quickly. So it's a contradiction to link them together. The Alternative is supposed to mean "Critical Thinking" which eliminates the "crazy".
