Except that it's not fictional. Unless you have good evidence you'd like to offer? But yes, it is a historical record, recording some terrible things that mankind has done.

@eb2505 Yes, definitely a lot more. Including... * Reap what you sow * Pride comes before a fall * There’s nothing new under the sun There's a website that lists 85 of them. And I doubt that list is exhaustive.

And many, many, more.

@garethwest9069 I came across a site titled "The Ultimate List: 85 Common Sayings From the Bible" which, despite its title, I'm certain is not exhaustive. To list just a few here... * Forbidden Fruit * As old as Methuselah * How the mighty have fallen * By the skin of your teeth * Bite the dust * There's nothing new under the sun * The root of the matter P.S. I've now seen that you saw my other comment on this.

I don't know if you're being disingenuous or trying to be funny.

@junior.von.claire Not exactly. This is a scapegoat version!

There are several references to non-biblical sources in the Bible. Jude cites Enoch, not The Book of Enoch. Is he citing the book that we now know as The Book of Enoch? We can't be sure. Leviticus gives us enough information to understand the original use of the word; we don't need The Book of Enoch.

@FarEasternMagi "on what what Authority do you claim Jude is not quoting The Book of Enoch?!" On the authority of the very book (Jude) that you cite, which doesn't mention the book. "If it wasn't scripture how did they have a record of it still in the time of Jesus..." First, one possibility is that what we currently have as The Book of Enoch is a later publication that repeats what Jude wrote. But even if that's far-fetched, why do you presume that only scripture can last that long? "...why did Jesus call its teachings scripture?" It's only an inference that He did. He doesn't mention the book. "How much do you know about the Book of Enoch??" It's not one of my areas of expertise.

@FarEasternMagi "Jude Called it Prophecy" I've already pointed out that that is incorrect. "It is not referred to as Paul refered to "Your own Poets" clearly making it Extra "Biblical" so to speak." But there is a good reason for Paul saying that other than to point out that it's not biblical. So there is no reason to think that his purpose in saying that was to highlight that it was a non-biblical source. And Jude obviously could not make the same point about anything from a Jewish source. So by your rationale, anything from a non-biblical Jewish source must therefore be biblical! "We have Ancvient Greek Excerpts of it…" From when? And including that particular prophecy? "Would you like to see images of the quotes of Enoch in Pre Christian Scriptures found among the Dead Sea Scrolls?" No point, given that I don't read the language. From what I can find, however, the prophecy quoted by Jude is not among them (as there are only fragments). Your long spiel is at odds with a lot of scholarship on the matter, which says that the Book of Enoch that existed at the time of Christ was written only a few centuries earlier (i.e. not by Enoch), that it was never considered part of the Jewish canon, etc. You also assume bad motives by the early Christians who rejected it as Scripture.

What is biblical about that?
