According to one report I heard, Metro's own comms system went down independently, which meant switching to the backup, Optus was the backup! But Metro got their comms system fixed soon after.

It was only Internet on the mobile network, I presume.

When I said "only Internet on the mobile network", I meant that it didn't involve internet on the NBN network; only on the mobile network. But maybe I'm assuming too much? Is the Optus landline all provided by the NBN network? If so, then I stand corrected.

I can't answer for Andrew, but in my case, my mobile uses the Optus network, but at home it could use the wifi of my NBN-based Internet service. Which doesn't help with making or receiving calls (although I also have a landline with the NBN connection).

They tell customers when they have to briefly shut the system down to do it, or when the customer will notice a change. Why would they tell customers if they think that they can do it without the customers noticing anything? That would be just wasting the customer's time.
