Not exactly the same thing, and not to do with the Jews, but I had a friend who was an atheist scientist in Indonesia, and noticed that some rural villages were very neat and tidy whilst other looked run down and uncared-for. He came to realise that the former were Christian villages and the latter were Muslim villages.

To be fair, it's more accurate to say that it's a plea to control other people's language when those other people are talking to a third party. The person concerned may be present, but are not the one being addressed. But yes, this third-party aspect is an important point that seems to be largely overlooked.
