@drhotchkiss Yes, Ukraine is very strategic. It flaunts American supremacy over our former great rival, it defends democracy, territorial integrity and reaffirms the rules based international system, unironically. Also, Ukraine has water which Europe will desperately need as the hydrology cycle destabilizes from climate change. It's VERY strategic, on its face, for resources, and for military expansionism (if you're not growing you're shrinking). It's also a decent dry-run for our industrial sector to supply the US armed forces during full scale invasion. A long list of reasons, and none of them rely on anyone's humanity (i know how republicans hate arguing for things based on what's morally correct, so let's look at the dolla dolla bills).

@SinkingShips1998 Someone will engineer a crisis where the idiots run off a cliff like lemmings. It's unrealistic to imagine this level of stupidity can survive in a society this complex, let alone in another 10-20 years as VR and AI art mess with our perception of reality and what's survivable even further, and things continue to get more intricate and confusing generally.

Does anyone ever stop to ask if we can afford this? Cause I don't think we can afford it, monetarily. Gotta protect the USD.

@daniconi7333 We can't afford a war with Iran, Iraq, Syria or Yemen. If they cost half what the Iraq war did, it will cost over 3 trillion after interest. Iran is 2x the size of iraq, 2x the population, and mountainous. The war would be slow, and we'd lose a lot of vehicles which are expensive. I would bet war with Iran would cost 10 trillion, if Iraq cost 7t. Can you imagine slapping on another 10-20 trillion onto the US debt? We'd default. That's not good.

Based, the fallout won't effect our allies or trigger any sort of retaliation or sanctions from those in the old world who we irradiated.
