  1. I am married to a Filipina and live in the Philippines. You do "marry" the family, in a sense. So ... make sure it is a good family. The family I married into is ten times better than my biological family. They have helped me out in more ways than I can count. Most men come here looking for a traditional woman, then want her to cut ties with the family that made and keep her traditional. Make that make sense. I went into the relationship knowing this dynamic. I keep a close watch on my finances and have a set amount that I give every month. I don't go over that no matter how sad the story is. Her family knows it and doesn't ask for more. I understand that its a Western dynamic not to share what you have. If that's you, this may not be the place for you. If you want a non-traditional woman who doesn't care for her family, then you will get a woman who is more like a Western woman. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. As a aside, taking care of her whole family is much, much, much less than the average demands of one Western woman. However, to each their own. DON'T LEAD WITH YOUR WALLET! There are no misandrist laws here in the Philippines that force men to give money to women. If a man does that, it's all on him. If he loses it all to a girl, that's all on him. There's no government forcing you to do that. Local men here bail on women all the time and don't pay a dime. If you lead with money, you will attract women who only want your money. Learn discipline and learn it fast. Also, stay away from bar girls and bar flies. Don't look for a girlfriend (or wife) in a bar. They are all cuter and younger than what you can get in the West, but it comes with a lot of strings attached. Stay away from dating sites unless you just want to date casually and have a VERY STRONG hold on your wallet. Take your time. Vet the woman carefully. Don't jump in without knowing her and her family. Educate yourself on how the women here scam you. Learn the signs and run. You can defend much better here because the government doesn't enable their scams like in the West.

I respect your culture, but sometimes a person from the outside can give you a fresh perspective on things you've been seeing your entire life. Filipinos have taught me a lot about my things in my own culture that that were in front of me my entire life, that I never saw. I hope that you will accept my comments in the same light. Are there age gap relationships that are simply transactional? Of course. However I've seen many relationships of similar age that are also transactional. I maintain that love doesn't have age bounds. Perhaps you've seen predatory older men or scamming younger women. It happens. There is good reason for that generalization, but it's not an iron clad principle. Saying things like that is akin to "all women are scammers" or "all men are cheaters." It doesn't hold up.

  4. @ca60453  Yes, about 75% of the ones I ran into here who had problems... it was with a bar girl or club girl. It's not 100%, but the odds are still bad.

  5. @Obeythemay  My wife does the same. Immediate family only. No aunts, uncles or cousins. She shuts down their requests before they even get to me. My biological family is also mostly a bunch of godless back-stabbers. I don't miss them.

  10.  @shinsekai101  Ah ... I understand. Yes, having to keep working in another country is a difficult hurdle. You can try to segue to online or international business, but that is easier said than done and I don't know your situation ... might not be possible. As for the girl being legit, yeah those are some red flags ... but there is risk everywhere. All I can recommend is to invest as little $ as possible while you continue to develop the situation and see if she is good or not. I didn't give my now wife any money in the years we knew each other. It has worked out well. Godspeed and good luck.

  11. Bo ... I just spoke with two expats who returned here to the Philippines from Thailand. They both said it is now cheaper in the Philippines. Also Google "Bonifacio Global City" if you want to see a world-class place in the Philippines with infrastructure and everything there is to offer. $650 for a condo in a high rise. I live on a smaller island and have a 3 BR/2Bath place in a gated community a 10 minute walk from the beach in a resort area... for $700/mo. The weird thing here is that there are no zoning laws ... so you will see a luxury home right next door to a hovel. It's not that way in the bigger cities though. There are very nice enclaves. Yes, a lot of province girls live in places that look exactly like what he showed in the video. My wife's family has a 1 BR cinder block house. But disparaging the woman because that is where she grew up is both unfair and a big mistake. Many of them have far more character and maturity than the entitled Western princesses who have had everything handed to them. May of these women are true partners in life. If you want luxury and infrastructure, stay in Manila or one of the bigger cities. Also, the expats who build houses in the province ... those houses don't look like this. They are walled compounds with a well, generator and high speed fiber. The house looks like a luxury villa.
