  1. I'd go so far as to say it began when they opened up voting to non-land owners. At least they had skin in the game and some knowledge of finances. I know I'll probably get crucified for that view.

  2.  @samengelage3521  I cannot find fault with anything you’ve written … and I agree that the land owner system probably would have eventually failed or gone bad due to corruption and special interests. Thanks for the additional info.

  3. Interest is a tax on people who suck at math. Every generation has these kinds of people. I dealt with hit over 35 years ago when I checked a woman's credit score before becoming involved with her. Granted, this recent crop seems the worst I have seen. I knew guys before '08 who declared bankruptcy, then had a new home, with a new car in the driveway and three new credit cards in their pocket less than a week later.
