@danielbwest I’m sure that in your head you have the perfect argument that Russia is evil and just does evil stuff cause that’s what evil people do. In the actual world it doesn’t work like that. First of all let’s take Turkey out of the picture. Russia and Turkey have a long tradition of conflicts and cool down periods. That is to be expected cause they have geopolitical interests in certain areas. If you think that Russia likes what Erdogan is doing in Azerbaijan or Syria, then think again. Russia and Turkey do not have an alliance, they have a momentarily understanding, providing services to each other up to a point. Turkey will never be a Russian Trojan Horse in NATO despite Erdogan’s posturing and tantrums. The truth is that he got too big for his pants thinking that he will combine the offensive superiority of US made aircrafts with the defensive superiority of Russian anti-air missile systems and he will have the best of two worlds. Until he got slapped back to his place and faced the danger of having a heap of unserviced F-16s. What sparked this idea of Erdogan was the issue with the Cypriot S-300, which after the Turkish tantrums left the island and got incorporated in the Greek air defence giving an edge against the Turkish air defence. I’m sure that he could acquire some S-300 but because it’s Erdogan and he had to show to the plebs there that he has the bigger one, he went for S-400 and then his diplomatic troubles started.
Turkey is only threatening that will side with Russia trying to play both sides, but in the end it will always be in NATO for very particular geopolitical reasons.
Germany had a dependence on Russian oil and gas, and had its own little plans for domination, this time via financial means not bullets since the last two times didn’t end well. The problem though is that Germany is still an unofficially occupied country, and while appearing strong in reality the US state department calls all the shots in the German political arena, both by bribing and blackmailing on an individual and state level. Yes the Germans were dependent on Russian oil and gas but when it comes to the point of choosing a side, they will always pick US of A. The massive proof of their inability to act independently is that the German chancellor sat smiling like an idiot while grandpa Biden was announcing in a press conference that the GERMAN oil pipe will be taken out. A few months after it got blown up and nobody in Germany made a whisper, because US was in da house carrying a stick and ready to use it.
None of the European countries you imply that Russia has a hold on, would pick Russia over US anytime. Even if that’s obviously against their public interest, because their political scene is dominated by people who don’t exactly care about the public interest. I mean just check the bios of all the leading politicians and you will find all sorts of connections to American institutions, universities, NGOs etc.
Russia did all it could, which was marching up and down its armies, saying in all tones ‘’guys I’m going to invade if this shit doesn’t stop’’. The US administration, not Biden he is gone long ago, decided that it’s wise to seek no compromise and push the situation regardless the consequences for Ukraine and Europe, cause after all…. They don’t live here.
