Wonderfully explained by Tyler. Plenty to digest & think about...

Very interesting (and sympathetic) talk!

Thank you so much for taking the request! Amazing content as usual

Kafka is moving away from having a separate consensus protocol and bringing it internal? I thought KRaft was a separate cluster of quorum server nodes that make up a "quorum controller service". I understand that it can possibly run co-located on the same physical broker nodes but wouldn't that not be supported in production?
2
Really great overview of systems programming and programming language design trade offs.

Haircut looks good (also the green polish), longer hair has that wizardy-vibe though :D depends on what you're going for :D

VERY much enjoyed this interview. Loved all the technical detail. All those were the very same questions I really wanted answered. Would love to have been even more technically deep. Sounds like such an interesting tool. Really loves this talk
2
Thanks for both of you, great conversation. Zig is a thing for me now.
2
im not quite done watching this but I have been having a good time watching. Good work!
2
That was very interesting. Many projects would benefit from having someone like Alice Cecile
2
super, I really enjoy this kind of content especially in game. Game development is hard and any effort that try to simplify it is awesome.

@ADHDftw I’m hijacking’s this thread for a second to say I really appreciated your story and your great discussion on this topic, Chris! I have ADHD and can strongly relate to literally everything you shared about your own experience. Listening to this discussion felt so validating. Thank you so much!

We aim to please 😊

Great interview. Really curious about that Rusty future of the GPU

The memory leak joke made me do a sharp nose exhale

@DeveloperVoices there's also leap.nvim, in case you want a different flavor
2
For two decades I thought it odd that a compiler can only make one kind of executable. I saw targets a bit like printer drivers.
2
Quality! This content is what we love!

Have no interest in postgres but I loved just having this in the background as I did my own coding. Thanks for another wonderful video! I actually found myself happy knowing a little more about postgres despite not being interested in it. Just one little thing to have in my back pocket in case a situation arises where a good extension mechanism in a DB is required, in which case postgres will be the first thing I'll try!
2
found your channel recently, very good content! congrats!

Go Evan! Love to hear he is still working on Elm, it's such a fantastic language. The error messages, the simplicity, it really is a thing of beauty.
2
Why didn't you let the cat in? 😅
2
I just found this channel today, this is my 4th episode already, great channel!!
2
I only just noticed how genius the thumbnail for this video is. I hope it doesn't go unappreciated.

Child actors and child workers. OOP can get pretty dark sometimes in terms of wording.

DuckDB changed my (Data-Science)-Life! :face-red-heart-shape:

I'm currently learning Odin, and it seems like every time I delve into a topic, I'm always amazed at how cleverly things are done in Odin. The more I use Odin, the more I agree with his maxim "Odin is the alternative to C for the joy of programming". I invit any coder to test it for a few weeks. It's an amazing language for coding.

Sad he looks like my ex gf aged 20 years.

Alright, I'll give Zed a try.
2
this is the first time ive heard the value prop for zig explained clearly
2
This is really helpful. Thank you ever so much 🎉😊

Someone needs to document as much as possible in a formal study over the next decade so we can finally empirically understand why some languages get adopted and others don't. There are so many good languages available now it is almost overwhelming.
2
Its lovely to see you guys together and a really good discussion. I think we also live local Kris - I whizzed past you running on my run by the river at the weekend :)

Great episode!
2
Great show, . Really appreciate these style of discussions on Kafka/Redpanda topics. Thanks for creating and sharing these Neil.
2
Absolutely terrific wide-ranging conversation.
2
Thank you both for this interview!
2
Nice interview. One thing though, as a visual learner I wish he had shown code while he was explaining various aspects of the language.
2
Superb discussion! Thank you very much.
2
I'm new to programming. I'm glad I watched this interview early.
2
Terrific discussion.

Thanks for the reminder. Can't believe I wasn't subscribed with the amount of videos I've been watching recently <3

Awesome!

Gleam is a cool idea but I've already used Elixir and Rust in production together. They work rather well together for building NIFs or VNodes and you can reclaim a fair amount of performance while maintaining a fault tolerant system. To be fair though, many companies just use Erlang because they don't care so much about the syntax. I personally, am fine working with that prolog style syntax though I prefer the Elixir syntax more. it would be nice to have strict types though and also being able to compile to JS and WASM is a plus. You can't do that with traditional Elixir/Erlang. Though I wish Gleam had module level pattern matching like Erlang and Elixir do. Not being able to write multiple function heads is just a handicap imo.

Thanks for the talk, would be great to hear more on the vector databases from someone involved.
2
Amazing interview, amazing guest.
2
One thing I am wondering about. The command returns a number of items, yet in the the entry maker you deal with the entries individually. Where is the splitting happening? Absolutely fantastic and so much fun. Thanks for taking us along on the ride and to make it so practical. Can't wait for the next installment.
2
Great episode, have you considered inviting someone from the core team of Rust?
2
Awesome to get to see Simon talk in a long-form podcast. He's usually behind the scenes at conferences/meetups here in Aus! Great episode.
2
very fascinating, congratulations, Luca! I will definitely give it a shot.
