Tradeoffs of environmental remediation and restoring the natural landscape versus leisure use and old timey boomers' favorite make-out spot. Also, all that water storage which helps with low rainfall years. Yeah. Go Bears(!).

  5.  @Asianometry  Oh right I misheard the name when I googled it: Kofukuji temple in Nara, not Tofukuji temple in Kyoto (which Wikipedia says takes it name from both the Kofukuji and Todaiji temples in Nara).

  7. I grew up with a 7-11 next to my house in Taipei in the early 1980s. Of course, I got the tea eggs which went for 5 NTD or about the exchange equivalent of 12.5 cents. That was 40 years ago and inflation adjusted, those eggs were about $1 in today’s dollars. Indeed, when I was in Taipei last week, they were still selling the tea eggs for about $1. Back then I thought 7-11 was the epitome of massive success. Little me didn’t know they were in the midst of dire financial straits and wouldn’t break even for 7 more years.

  12. Maybe you should try to upload a video less frequently in 2025 or you will end burning out. Your content is usually quite good and It probably requires lot of investigation so... just take the time to do so and also have a life.

PS: Thks for the big-picture. It helps me put the details together. For small/simple/parallel processing, FPGAs can't be beat.

  26. Real. The HSR has been operated for more than a decade, and every time when I headed to Tainan HSR station I just feel a little bit upset about the distance between the city and the station. It would have been much better if the station is close to the old city or Xinshi/Shanhua.

  31. This is not what I learned about the hakka from my mother. There are different sectors of so called hakka. We are the New Territories Hong Kong hakka. Hakka or hakga was given to us by the bunti (Cantonese) of Hong Kong. I was told that hakga meant black family again it was a derogatory term. We were black because of our "magic" lol but really it was our education of science and ancestral "worship". It's not worship tho it's paying respect to our lost ones. Hence that's why the bunti were afraid of us and committed genocide against us. The hakga that I know of are spread all over the world and some have forgot where they come from. We all reunite on a moon festival called "Ting Min" but while the hakga have evolved the celebrations have declined. As I'm writing this I'm thinking I might do a video. Thanks very much for this video :)

  36. There is a big problem with the quality of staff in US. Without trained workers who are focused, TSMC will have to import workers from Taiwan. Local USA people won't be capable of the job at TSMC, I think. Love Taiwan. (KaVaLan video coming I hope???)

  44.  @Asianometry  Plus you have to watch out for your family if they are in China, I don't know, I completely understand what you mean, it's the education system they just don't allow critical thinking and proper debating anymore. I grew up in a negative environment so the negative comments can really mess up your psyche sometimes too so that I understand. Yeah I will look into it.

  50. the unique aspect of the Chinese in South Africa was how they operated at the fringes of a legalized segregation framework imho. Perhaps parallels could be drawn to the Mississippi Delta Chinese or some other parts of the world.
