  4. Thank you so much for having me. I have given it a lot of thought as to why I was told I wasn’t allowed to help. I can speak Korean pretty well, but in such a chaotic situation, things could easily be misunderstood because this is out of my usual day to day use of the language and I may have caused more harm than good. I don’t know of this is right or wrong, but this is the way I decided to look at it that gives me more peace and feel less guilt and regret for not just helping anyway. At least I could stand by my boyfriend and try to give him as much of my energy to keep going.

  9. As a Taiwanese, I would like to thank Asian Boss for these great interviews. For the woman who said that we did not show xenophobia several years back then, I can assure our friends from the other side. Even though there are more conflicts between Taiwan and China, the people here in general are still very friendly toward the Chinese, that has not yet change. What I am happy about this interview is that most people still wants and value peace. I do think "Peace" is the biggest consensive for both Taiwanese and Chinese. So we should both work together to keep it that way.

  15. I think that if you feel plastic surgery is what you want to do, that is great. No one should criticise you for making that choice, but I think it is completely fair for someone to question or criticise what it is in society that may have brought someone to either questioning their looks on a personal level, or questioning if their looks are enough to get them far in an industry where looks shouldn't be important. I'm glad I live in a society that doesn't have that pressure put on me. I feel plastic surgery should only ever be a personal choice. When it comes to doing it to improve job prospects, it shows companies are putting beauty above actual talent and skill in the workplace. It completely goes against those that actually wouldn't want to have plastic surgery. That choice they make could be the difference between living on minimum wage, and living a comfortable life. That's not right in my opinion. I think that if some countries like Korea didn't have the competitive and rigorous education system that it does have, where everyone ends up having similar skills and qualifications, then this might not even be a thing. They've passed the point of requiring those with the correct skill, and now want to create a utopia of homogeneous beauty based on only one type of ideal.

  18. This is such an important topic that I'm glad Asian Boss covered. As someone who lived in Japan, Thailand, and currently Korea, the obsession of white skin is very normal and usual. That's amazing that Miss Gray won but I do think it's important to tackle on the systematic idea of "did she win simply because she isn't full Filipina?" When I lived in Thailand, skin bleaching is advertised everywhere and mixing with white or East-Asian folks was ideal as it considered to be closer to the beauty standard. I can't' fully blame them since advertisements and the media consistently push out whiter looking models, actors, and actresses while denying folks of darker-skinned tone AKA what the majority looks like. This causes for a lot of women (and men too), to feel pressure to achieve this "ideal" look and therefore they bleach their skin or go to some extremes to do so. This is really normal in Asia. As an English teacher in Korea, I try to tell my Korean students that they are all beautiful. A lot of them have darker tanned skin and I tell them they look amazing simply because I know the outside world tells them otherwise. We need to have this discussion and tackle these problems in order to promote beauty in everyone - but especially darker-skinned folks since they are consistently being ignored and muted. Miss Gray is beautiful, but not because she is whiter. Also, there are so many tanned and darker Filipinas that are very beautiful too! All colors are gorgeous, and I can't wait for the day where those with dark skin can be seen worldwide as beautiful too - because they are.

I just hope after all the hardship is over, we are stronger and closer as a whole and that countries (governments and people) will realize we need to work together to solve world issues such as this and others to come.   28. I really like this video because it shows such a different opinion on the principle of democracy. Many "western" people think that they can define what democracy is or what is "right " for a political system. But I think that exactly this opinion is problematic. I, as a German, would probably not like the Chinese political system because I'm used to other standards. But I honestly think that I wouldn't like the American system as well. Being used to something and thinking that it is right (or not) doesn't mean it is right for everyone. This thinking, to have some "better" knowledge than others has led in the past to big problems, as everybody hopefully knows. Therefore I really like this insight and how Chinese look at their system from a Chinese way. As mentioned in the beginning this cannot be called an "unbiased" study but for a first insight this is actually quite helpful.

  33. I wasn't going to watch this video because I'm moving to Korea in a few weeks to teach and didn't want to see anything negative, but this was a well done interview. I do wish you would've asked them more about getting their perceptions about a whole race of people from media (similar to your Korean drama vs real korea interview). I also don't understand the Big Black Bro/Sis thing. Would it be ok if I called them "my little yellow bro/sis" no matter their age and status? It seems like I would be calling them inferior to me/talking down to them...EDIT: what I'm trying to say is if flipping the language seems inappropriate, then it probably isn't the best language to use for everyone involved . Black people don't want to be put on pedestals or be given titles for no reason. We just want to be treated like individual human beings that have different experiences, that you would learn about if you talk to us. Again great job, and thanks for the interview.

  50. As a writer and researcher, I have watched more than a hundred interviews with virologists, infectious disease experts, ICU docs and epidemiologists. This was the best interview I have seen. Dr. Kim does a remarkable job of explaining vaccines, the development of vaccines and what we might anticipate with COVID-19. Good interview questions as well. If Dr. Kim was one of my professors in college, it would have been my favorite class. Perfectly articulated and understandable to the layperson.
