  3. I'm from Bahia, I grow up in Salvador and people here in the city are way more aware of racism, even casual racism than the rest of brazil. You try to talk about casual racism in Goias, Santa Catarina or even São Paulo (states I lived and know from experience) and people will use excuses to extremely racist behavior that in Salvador would get you scolded or beat up 😂 The city is really something the whole state of Bahia breathes culture, and the black roots are deep, even in parts of the state that indigenous culture is more prevalent you still can see the black influence in the language, the food, the religion and in people's faces ❤

  9. How exciting! My husband retired at the end of May. We spent a month in the states saying our goodbyes to friends and family. We arrived in Guadalajara almost two weeks ago and are here for two more weeks. We will spend a month each in 5 other Mexican states. This is our first stop on a 5-6, or more, travel adventure around the world. One of our goals, besides having tons of fun, is to figure out where we want to retire permanently. Maybe we will meet up with you sometime during our 5.5 months here! 😁 We are absolutely loving Guadalajara! What an awesome city! ❤️

  12. As a Brazilian and South American we often complain about seeing brazil through the eyes of the US. As the US is this dominant, belic, cultural force all around the globe that used its influence down here..because of that we are sometimes skeptical. But having watched your videos - down to earth, everyday people who are truly connecting with our culture and actually seeing how much of deep heritage and strugle we have it makes me appreciate the WORK and JOY thta you are putting into these videos.   16. It seems sorta counter to the idea that raising the dollar amount to get in will prevent "gentrification'. Higher income people coming in will make it even more divided as far as the income disparity. They could have done it like Panama and require an FBI background clearance. Or like Ecuador require a higher learning degree. I could get in based on current income, but not on retirement income when I stop working. So for anyone thinking about retiring there, get the residency NOW.

Hi you guys...I am a retired Americano that has been living quite happily in Cancun for the last 2 years...here are some of my thoughts: 1) Cancun is really only 60 years old...sooo...we don't have ANY of the charming colonial style buildings or cathedrals here :( 2) The "Hotel Zone" is a completely diff world than the rest of the city...there are some "well to do" areas for people with a few pesos in their pockets but, for the most part, Cancun residents are what most Americans would call "lower-middle class". 3) Import taxes are high throughout Mexico...so buying stuff on Amazon always has "extra" charges involved...your usually better off trying to find your stuff locally :) 4) I have NEVER felt unsafe here...NEVER...the shootings you mention at the beginning of your vid are RARE...compared to Chicago, Miami, Atlanta or Baltimore...Cancun is a fairytale :) 5) The seafood is some of the best I've ever had...and Mexican food in general is stupendous IMO :) 6) Cost of living is a HUGE reason I will stay...My 400 sq. ft. Studio apt. is $350 USD per month all inclusive...water, electric and pretty good wi-fi...(sometimes my landlady even brings me her chicken mole on special Sundays !!! ) My SS check from the USA is just under $1000...I NEVER have spent that much and I even have had months where I SAVED $200...simply no way in the world I could do that in ANY city in the USA !! OK...that's my 2 cents...Over & Out :) :)

  18. I was doing my own research but this warms my heart to see you guys care enough to put it on your channel. Just because some of us aren't taking one covid vaccine does not mean we are not being safe and cautious. In fact I travelled to Costa Rica in June, right as covid picked up again, and my driver, concierge, his drivers and all of my guides went maskless and even told me and my friend we didn't need ours. I would still wear mines in the vans and dining tables until my food actually came. Any time I saw hand sanitizer I used it lmao. If someone want to see me as a danger then that's fine, I'll go where Im treated best. Thank you for showing us!

I hope you enjoyed Salvador, I think it's amazing how they managed to maintain African culture, despite everything that went against it, for me what most enriches Brazilian culture is the heritage we have from African peoples and native indigenous peoples.

  21. Immigration in Chiapas wants to see FMM and passport... Unfortunately, i only had my passport and they sent me to camp for 6 nights SMH (this was 1 month ago.) Literally the WORST experience i've had abroad. i met other guys while there from the states who chose to get deported back. ALWAYS CARRY PASSPORT AND FORMA MIGRATORIA OR MIGRA WILL NOT HESITATE TO PUT YOU THROUGH HELL.

  23. i think classism exist but in a lower level than in the 80's or 90's where indigenous ppl were discriminated, but it has gotten better in a lot of areas, now mexican ppl are more proud of their indigenous roots and has a lot of respect for them. more and more ppl are learning the native languages.

  29. Lived in Lima off and on for 15 years. Now retired and built my home on the northern Beach, Pimentel. Been in Pimentel 5 years now with wife (Peruvian ) and 2 boys. I have a coffee business. The best coffee I have had comes from Cajamarca (San Ignacio plantation). #Cafe936.

  34. If you are still in the south of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, you MUST go to the wine Italian towns nearby Gramado. Places like Bento Gonçalves ( beautiful), Flores da Cunha, Caxias do Sul and Farroupilha. Spend a bit of time in this region it will pay off. Also if you're still looking for destinations, please don't hesitate to visit Florianópolis in Santa Catarina state, our magic island.

  41. I'm so glad to see how well the Salvador people know themselves and their roots. I'm so happy they are proud of their African heritage and still practice some of the traditions. In Africa there's a trend by our youths to Americanize and Europeanize as much as possible. This is in order to get access to opportunities abroad. I don't them blame for doing all they can to improve their lot as the economic conditions here make it difficult to survive. But I wish our governments would be more proactive in creating black cultural advocates by finding ways to connect them to these proud Afro-communities in the Americas. To see there's black peoples outside the continent who are also proud of their African roots.

  49. So glad you're digging Brazil!!! I went to Carnaval in Rio back in 2014 and was also surprised at how diverse the population is. The people looked as diverse as folks in the USA. It's size also reminded me of the US. My friend, Ulysses Jenkins, an artist and professor at U.C. Irvine, had recommended taking the dance course, "Dancing at the Source," offered by Viver Brasil-a dance performance group in Los Angeles with roots in Salvador de Bahía. As an African American traveling through Brazil, he said, "Folks in the US have no idea how much was stolen from us." Damn. I took the 2-week course in August of 2015. (The weather's still warm in August, but not oppressively hot:) Bahía's roots are deep. I hope you get a chance to learn about the Orishas and the role women played with maintaining African religious traditions, (Candomblé). There's also an incredible female batucada group in Bahía called Dida. You've gotta check 'em out. Safe travels! Enjoy the beaches, the food, the people,,,,, todo!! xoxoxo
