I only wish more African-Americans travelled to Mexico for extended periods beyond the tourist traps (which are also fine) and really got to know the amazing people, culture and even politics of our Mexican brothers and sisters - - - I really think it would beautifully change and magnify our symbiotic relationship here in the United States...   17. I took a 23andMe test. Going into it, I knew my mom was from Puerto Rico, and my father was from Sicily. I thought I’d be half-and-half European and maybe some Spanish and indigenous Taino. Some of my results included a 15% mix ranging from Nigerian, West African, Senegambian, Guinean, Ghanaian, Congolese and a few others I can’t remember off the top of my head. I love all of these DNA and heritage tests, I’ve taken a couple others to compare. Very interesting on your results.❀

  20. I love Brazil, lived there for 17 years, my son was born in RJ. But Brazil is complicated guys and unless you have income from US or Europe and speak decent Portuguese, it’s not the easiest or affordable place long term. However if you’re a digital nomad or YouTuber I get why it would be great for a few months. Long term making money in reais is a VERY different reality.

  22. You two would make very good history teachers. I bet you could start an online African-American/African history course, and once it got traction, it would do very well. There is a movement here in some states to take certain history out of classrooms. So now it is the responsibility of all people who believe in truth to tell what happened and to ensure that history is not buried. Wrongdoers always want their dirty deeds hidden and take credit for other people achievements. Keep dropping knowledge.

  23. Good list but you forgot about Croatia, Serbia and Albania?? I was just there in December and January and lovely countries! Albania have nice mountains and beautiful clear beaches which match Greek islands since they’re neighbors. I wasn’t asked for a pcr test however I was told some people they do ask for Albania but no restrictions at all whatsoever, completely open. Serbia and Croatia pcr test needed 3 days before Ave to say Croatia is my favorite Country!! Wine galore best I’ve tasted especially in the islands. A lot of Italian influence since Venetians colonized there a while. 3rd time traveling there and will do a one year nomad year because the best part of there is the people! Crystal clear waters and beautiful mountains. Serbia was nice but I didn’t like that after 8pm you need a Covid pass to enter restaurants indoors, kinda weird? Covid starts at 8pm there 😂😂😂 anyway still worth a visit, however Croatia is still #1

If you want to visit deeper inland, I'd suggest Belo Horizonte and the surroundings... Also, it seems like you are catching up on Portuguese... Learning and understanding it would give you guys access to maybe some other 95%, 98% of our culture, Impossible to be reached in English

  40. Great video! Salvador is the site of the biggest slave rebellion in Brazil, the "Male" (pronounced "Mah-lay") rebellion. Did you come across this uprising? It was a 19th century uprising led by moslem Yoruba and Hausa slaves, in fact the Yoruba word for moslem is "imale", so thats probably where the rebellion's name came from. It led to thousands of Africans, particularly Yorubas, being sent back to West Africa. Many settled in Lagos, Nigeria, where the joined the first middle classes along with rescued slaves returning from Sierra Leone. Many prominent families are descended from Brazilian returnees. Angelique Kidjo has this Brazilian link and I think Tiwa Savage might have it too.

I’ve given up trying to convince people - I’m just at a stage where I’m like “your loss” I’m from Cape Town South Africa and have had the pleasure of visiting Brazil and Rio many times in the last 7 years and try and get back there as often as I’m able to. By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed Ilha de Itaparica and Ilha dos Frades on my first trip back in 2016.
