  1. I found Atlantis: The Antediluvian World in the library when I was in highschool. I read it. I didn’t know who Donnelly was at the time, and I took it at face value. There were a couple claims in the book which I repeated as facts for many years until Wikipedia came around… one day I looked up the book and read about the author and realized that I had made the classic error of believing what I read. At the very least, my childhood interest in Atlantis lead me to a book about the Minoans, who are (were) real, and pretty cool.

While I'm subscribed to many channels featuring actual scientists in the areas of physics, astronomy, and cosmology (other areas of interest of mine), this is the first channel I think I've ever found run by an actual historian. I always thought that the “bags” (as I knew them up till now) were for carrying something precious (actually or symbolically) So to find out they are metal vessels for carrying water still aligns with them carrying something precious, after all what is more precious than water? It makes sense to show it in the hands of the gods.

  8. One small correction. In the analysis written they mention that the accuracy of the model (not the scanner) is 75 µm (about the thickness of a human hair) and therefor even less than what it is said in the video! This is not bad but also not super accurate.

While the idea of a Lost Ancient High Technology civilization has a lot of appeal in the Indiana Jones movie sense, there's a lot to be said for brilliant Inca master stonemasons doing "the impossible" with simple tools and massive ingenuity. Though the LAHT hypothesis does deny them the credit they deserve, I imagine they would also be flattered that members of a future civilization capable of landing people on the Moon and building self-driving cars would look at their work and believe that only people more advanced still could do what they did.

For those who don't understand, he is not saying that he is certain that we already know everything and there is zero possibility that a technologically advanced civilization existed, he is saying that the proponents of those theories haven't presented credible evidence and their methods and retoric are flawed, I'm sure that any person that studies history like him would be the most excited about a discovery of that caliber but also knows that claims that important requires even more scrutiny

I lived and worked in Cairo for a number of years, and because I have a PhD in Archaeology (specialising in Egyptology) every time a senior staff would visit from NY or wherever, I would be asked to take them on "the tour" - so I would take them to Giza, then Saqqara and finish at Dahshur .... One day an American colleague I was taking around the sites asked me if I ever got "bored" doing these "tours" and visiting these places (!) I simply said "how can one possibly get tired of seeing such fabulous things! every time I see them I am left in wonderment anew....". So seeing your video and being taken on a tour of Memphis and Saqqara by you and your colleague was simply a joy... ! I eagerly await the next installment...

  15. As somebody who whole heartedly believed that it took some more advanced tech that hadn’t been explained, to move these massive blocks of stone. Nobody explains it better then what you have, how they was and how it was most definitely possible. Between this and your other video on Baalbek regarding the granite columns. I now have a complete picture in my head on how it was done and how it was possible. I actually feel quite an idiot for being duped by all these other conspiracy videos. 😂🙈

  24. It is possible for a stone wall to collapse from the inside out, but I don't think that is what we see here in the Mayan buildings. One way to construct a drystone wall (I've done this in England) is two layers of 'good' stones on the outside, with a fill of rubble in between. On top you want a layer of capstones to keep the rain out. If rain gets in and then freezes it will slowly break down the rubble fill, until eventually the wall can collapse inwards. To rebuild the wall you can often reuse the outer stones, you just need to replace then rubble fill as you rebuild the wall. The freezing bit probably doesn't apply at the Mayan sites, but I thought I'd mention it.

  27. This is a really nice overview of the oldest accepted urban sites, and the specific criteria used to determine their status. Not sure I fully agree with the criteria, and the very old settlement of Jericho (walled, stone tower etc) is quite impressive, but any set of criteria, will be questionable, and arbitrary at its boundaries, and the list is a decent starting point. The only place where I question the exclusion is the Moldavian/Balkan sites. In the temperate climate it's very possible that they had monumental architecture and bureaucracy but made of materials that didn't preserve as well. Excluding them as cities based on a lack of clear evidence for those things despite clear evidence for their size strikes me as highly arbitrary (and possibly revealing the challenge in overthrowing convention) I'm also interested in the Tepe sites, as they are definitely larger than what has currently been excavated but there we absolutely need more evidence before being certain of where they fit on the sliding scale of development.

Actually, it was NOT the excavators who identified the Göbekli "handbags" as buildings, each marked with the animal symbol of a lineage or "house;" it was me, in a 2011 article published in Current Anthropology. I am gratified that my interpretation is gaining interest, including among the current excavators there.

  32. In the last year more evidence has come to light about Gobekle Tepe. The official report late this year (2022) from the people working the site indicates that they have now found domestic structures in proximity to the ritual structures. Separate as expected, but right next to them. I have watched the academic community's evaluation of the site evolve continually as new evidence was uncovered; they are hardly 'sticking to the conventional paradigm' here. Work at other nearby sites has produced evidence of a wide-spread culture in the region inconsistent with a hunter-gatherer model in terms of territory and population, and professionals commenting on the site are starting to seriously consider that they practiced agriculture. Naturally they are reluctant to commit to this position in the absence of concrete evidence, but they are open to the idea and are simply waiting for data to confirm it before committing. That's called 'science,' not a conspiracy or cover-up.

  33. As an Indian person, THANK YOU! I want to learn something about Ancient India from the Vedic Period, but most videos I can find are stupid conspiracy theories. Personally, the time frame I choose would be the late 12th-very early 9th Centuries BCE, as since the Kurukshetra War is presented to have kingdoms from all over the Indian Subcontinent, Afghanistan, Iran, Central Asia, and even the Chinese and Ionian Greeks. Historically, Kingdoms start popping around this time. Also, the iron age in South India becomes more advanced, and it starts having governments, like it is depicted in the Mahabharata.
