The more I think about this topic, the more I see parallels with virtually any discussion on Twitter or in the media. People who upload videos are an easy target, and make for a kind of virtual playground for anyone to be vocal about their own pet peeves, insecurities, or feelings about the world, politics, or society. It’s almost like a microcosm of the entire world seen through the prism of languages. Languages are also something people get very personally attached to. We all have our identities wrapped up in languages and language learning. So when it comes to YouTube, it only takes a YouTuber to diverge very slightly from someone’s own views, to suddenly have a whole litany of commentary or accusations to make about them. When I see the comments here, there are generally far more positive and inspired comments than anything else, and I think we get distracted by a vocal minority who usually seem to be more interested in virtue signalling than anything else. In the end, like the rest of life, I don’t think there’s any resolution to this. People are different, YouTube is weird, c’est la vie! Nice video!

I feel like getting mad about people wanting to learn about cultures would be the same as including "cultural appropriation" to food as well. The reason or foods styles evolved is because people shared their culture. Imagine if a British person weren't allowed to eat Tacos, or sushi, pho, or curry, because it were considered "cultural appropriation" because those are the origins of those foods. Someone could say eating Ramen is "cultural appropriation" because your culture didn't invent it.
So... wearing a Kimono is wrong but eating sushi is fine even though it is from the same culture.🤔 and unless as an American you are going to stop eating Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Korean, Friench, Italian, food etc and never watch foreign movies, cartoons or TV shows... then you should shut up about "cultural appropriation."
