  14. Some people are selfish, some are not. It's that easy. Nao can't say it that way. (^.^) I can, and I'm IN Tokyo. Starbuck's (even in Japan) will allow Customers to sit all day (and order nothing). That can contribute to confusion. Which businesses let you stay and which don't? But it is not as difficult as many make it. LOOK AROUND. If you see a line, then be nice and let others get their meal (you've had yours). Nao prefers tatemae. I prefer honne. Tatemae gets more "likes". Honne saves time. (^.-)

  17. Cash is king . It’s pretty safe to carry cash on the streets . Unlike Europe where pick pockets are allowed to do as they wish without police being strict .

  23. With todays extremely efficient insulting technic for homes I don't think that Japan's way is that good. Unless you have a very limited number of days per year were you need to heat. Above all, efficient insulation, lower the need to have air conditioning. And when you need AC, house are much much easier to cool down with efficient insulation. In Canada all our house have deep basement which serves as thermal heat/cool reservoir. which also contribute to reduce energy consumption on the long run (most people don't realised this although). What I take from this video is that Japan has a poor construction code, especially given there is a significant cold season. Overall my understanding is that Japanese people feels too cold or too warm most of the time in their house.

  25. japan is very overcrowded, everywhere not just tourist spots or trains. its not enjoyable at all anymore. waiting in long lines everywhere. I feel people should wait a few years or not visit the golden route at all

  26. I would advise you to learn how to read Japanese menu items if you plan to eat outside of tourist areas. Might want to watch this show since the Japanese is slower pace it is a good refences for most encounters 孤独のグルメ. Going to go at the end of September myself, have a good time.

  28. So we found a hotel that offers from udon every night and unlimited free drinks from 5-7 and booked there. It's in Kanda so not too far from the nihonbashi/Ginza area.

  33. If Japan has an overtourism problem, why doesn't the Japanese government do something about it? (1) Impose visa requirements on any foreign visitors, including tourists. (2) Limit the number of tourist visas issued. (3) Place an application fee on tourist visas to bring in additional revenue. (4) Enforce steep penalties on tourists misbehaving and ban them from future entry.

  34. For Tokyo, I got the 72 hour tokyo subway pass and had an IC card I got in Osaka (the one with cute penguins). Plus, I could use the IC card on JR, vending machine, Family Mart/Lawsons/7-11. I did use my google translate a lot. I learned if the Japanese did an X with their fingers, they didn't have the product. I highly recommend a trip to Japan (I did 4 days in Osaka, 9 in Tokyo and did side trips to Hiroshima and Kyoto from Osaka and Hakone/Nagoya/Yokohama from tokyo). and remember to get an egg salad sandwich from Lawsons!

  38. Well, it's kinda like countryside everywhere around the world... And I actually think that one train per hour is a lot ! Where I live there are only three trains in the morning to go to the nearest city and three train in the evening to go back

  39. For me, most of these were actually positives. It's good to know about things like community chests (I might be wary of a stranger coming to my door and asking for money without knowledge of that kind of custom) but most of this just sounds like "prepare to be part of a community because it's a very small place". I think people would probably peg me as American immediately because if I had just moved to a small town and they were staring, I would say hello and introduce myself (In Japanese of course). The only negative would be still having to have a car, though if all the immediate needs were withing cycling distance, that would probably be fine for the first couple of years at least.

  40. I grew up in Colorado, in what was then a rather small town. I5 was a wonderful place to grow up - cattle ranches around, horses, rocks to climb, great mountains in your face. Then as a young adult, the places was boring, I ha$ to go to the big city. Now that I am old, those natural, peaceful vistas look very appealing again.

  41. I agree with everything except avoiding popular chain restaurants. I went to many expensive independent restaurants looking for steak and they were very bad, the beef was too soft and it was priced high. Then I went to the chain Ikinari and it was better than any of the expensive places. For Izakaya, many good Japanese places do not allow foreigners so I ended up going to Torikizoku which was just OK. But the last night I tried Yamauchi Nojo and it was the best one that would let us in. Ramen so many independent shops with a long queue were disappointing. Then you go to a chain Kogenaya and it's much better. I believe they are chains for a reason because they made something good. My advice is to avoid long queues for something like ramen because it will almost never be worth the long wait.

  42. ^ Could you do a video if you like on onsens and the best area to pick one. I know there are many onsets to choose from. But, i was wondering what areas would be the most beautiful to find an onsen. I would visit the normal cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.

The reason why Italians don't like is its to sweet due to the ketchup having a much higher concentration of sugar than crushed tomatoes lack of seasoning especially herbs apart from the onions and sauce lacks acidity but it make sense why they used ketchup due limited access of fresh food after the war. Also don't think of California rolls as sushi just think of them of sliced おにぎり then it should be okay. Will get to try very soon in September along with 納豆
