  9. Just came across this video and I almost had an issue with the rip off bar as my hotel ($13 USD/ a night) was in a area filled with these types of bars. There were many foreigners from Africa trying to get other tourists and some locals into these bars very forcibly. On my last night in Japan I saw a bar near my hotel that was Fate/Stay Night themed and I am a huge fan so I opted to go in, Until a local man who is now a good friend pulled me out as soon as I walked in the building. He then explained to me how the bars operate around the area and that they will spot that I am a foreigner and rack a cumulative amount of bills and fees without me noticing. He warned me that a lot of these African foreigners who are hired by these establishments will hurt me if I can not pay the absurd bills that were put against me and potentially take my passport and belongings to make up for the bill. The kind gentleman then took me to a nice bar where we played darts then went to the arcades. We exchanged contact Line information and still talk with each other almost 2 years later, I am going to be visiting again next spring and he was kind enough to help me with a lot of things I missed on my first trip there. I had figured out the subway system on my last day as the taxi's are very expensive and some would not take me as I was a foreigner.

  11. Yeah,I’d lost my wallet at the nearest supermarkets and it doesn’t return😢so i have to have an alert mind to nớt experienced that again…glad its only small amount of money…and i don’t care about the money…i care about my cards…but…sad…even cards don’t come back.

  15. How about early Dec? Wondering if I would still catch the autumn trees? Planning to solo travel on my birthday. I've been to Japan 3x: late Sep '15, late Nov '23 and late Jan this year. So far my favorite is Nov to see the Autumn colors. Although there were so many tourists in Yufuin coz my trip coincided with Labor Thanksgiving day! haha

I just got back from Japan after two weeks and I kinda liked having a lot of people around during my time there, I got observe how the people conduct themselves (no staring of course) and listen to some Japanese without standing out too much. Also the weather was perfect although it did rain a bit. I'd like to spend New Years there when I go next time.

  22. I went to japan in march of 2023 right before they opened the tourism up to world as of April 1st 2023. I then went back in September 2023 and there were surprisingly many changes. I hope when I go back at the end of this year, there isn’t too drastic of a difference

  24. I visited early to mid March this year, and will visit end of February to mid March next year. I just realised your hometown is Kinosaki Onsen, it's in my itinerary for next year! I have pollen allergies so sakura doesn't interest me, I really want to visit during autumn but it's not suitable with my work. Early March is still quite cold, not as cold as Dec-Feb though. I don't mind since I enjoy cooler temperatures. It's also low season, so plane tickets and accomodations are cheap! I also love onsen and prefer bathing during colder temps, and the seafood is also great during/just after winter. Another perks of low season is not as many tourists, which I also prefer.

  27. Very good video, thanks a lot! Watchers, please stop writing unfriendly comments. All these unwritten rules really apply in Japan and I wish they would do more so in other countries, too. I love Japan and really want to blend in the best way I can. There are always exceptions that prove the rule so it is naive to mention individual cases not following these rules. Moreover, many Western people mistake other Asian people for Japanese, wherefore I believe these rule breakers aren’t even locals ;).

  31. Agree re convenient stores and train lunch boxes. Never understand all the hype - handy to have when you need something but so what 🤷🏻‍♂️. Also thought Asakusa was an overrated area, but in fairness, it might have been the crowded conditions that made it unpleasant and touristy.

  32. It really depends on you want to experience in Japan. As for me, I prefer not to go to Japan at peak seasons and do exactly what most tourists do, visiting popular places or experience Cherry Blossums, autumn leaves etc. I like visiting local suburban places to see Japanese way of life. I went to Japan in mid-October. Less tourist and hotels cheaper. Weather is also perfect, no need to wear a jacket. But if you want to visit Japan to experience those things in peak period, then go ahead too. So it all depends on your personal preference.

So the times you say is not good to go to Japan because the weather will not be ideal for vacation, maybe that’s when there are the cheapest tickets? So it will be beneficial for us. We are a family of 7 (five children!) so we need to find a way to save money on airfare 😅

  37. For travel from Narita, I was recommended the Low-Cost bus for ¥1.500 to Tokyo Station. Travel time is not very different versus train (took me 15 minutes longer), but it was much cheaper (1.500 instead of 2.700). Luggage can go in the bottom of the bus. From Tokyo Station it's easy to take a train about anywhere else.

  38. If theres more foreigner who will have a cafeteria or a restaurant where you can do nombiri or do pastime it would be a much enjoyable inaka lifestyle. I used to dream like that when my kids was still small.

I wonder about mold - in Denmark we are told to have heat in every room to prevent mold - but of course the buildings are very well insulated, some times even too much, so letting in air is essencial. Old people like me do not need to die from cold inside our homes, unless you are very poor, which is rare! I hope you get away from cold in Japan

  45. This guy is a cultural fascist. Of course I intend to respect any culture I travel to. But he presumes that "Japanese people" (as he generalises) do not have any acceptance, forgiveness, or understanding of how foreigners may make inadvertent oversights. I have inadvertently"broken" some Japanese customs but only ever been met by a smile and a polite explanation of caring help, rather than annoyance ... the same as I would afford any tourist's oversights in my own country.
