Thank you! I didn't know the rule about not wearing caps in restaurants. I will make sure to take my cap off on my next trip!

Great information. Thank you!

Scams: Sexual Assault I never heard anyone classifying sexual assault as a scam before.
10
Even better: watch all the spots you wanna visit on YouTube and then you don't need to visit. ๐

Dear Nao, thank you for sharing the Japanese Motto: โKeep it cleaner than what it was before.โ Girl Scouts in America are taught the same thing when visiting parks, museums and camping in the Forrest. Girls Scouts are taught to make the area cleaner and neater than how you found it.

Excellent video with really valuable information ๐ We are a middle-aged couple visiting Tokyo for the first time in January 2024, and then maybe 2 nights in Fujisan (Mt Fuji) at the tail-end before heading back to Narita Airport. Which area in Tokyo do you suggest we stay given our itinerary, given a low to mid-range budget? ๐ค

Konnichiwa, Nao! I lived in Japan for 2 years back in 1988 and 1989. I loved it! I still, to this day, have warm miso soup with root vegetables for breakfast in winter. I drink hot water, too! I LOVE hot water. When available, I drink a hot fresh ginger and turmeric tonic, too. I always have hot drinks in winter! God bless you, dear friend! Love your channel. โค

Thank you for the great tips ๐ It's... heartwarming ๐ to know that the same scams get perpetrated both in Japan and in my home country ๐๐คฃ๐ as my granny would say: "the whole world is the same village" Thank you again, I'll keep an eye out for scammers ๐

Awesome advices as always!!! I just want to add a personal tip about packing... With current pricing in Japan you will be tempted to shop a lot (including for clothing)! Because of the humid climate, you will need at least a couple of outfit changes per day, but you can buy a lot of those there. Make sure you try them on first because sizing may be different from your country. Uniqlo size S in the US is size M in Japan for example.

In the US if you sleep on the floor your poor and of those who do it usually on a mattress without a frame. What many people in the US do if they have limited space is either buy a sofa that turns into a bed or use what called a murphy bed which is a mattress that is recessed into the wall that you pull down when in use. I am sure one of the AIrbnb I stay at next month will have futon to sleep on

@JapanwithNao yes, Tomato soup and toast with cheese, as ambhatti say <3 Very common in Poland too. I always make regular chicken soup, with lot of vegetables, then add tomatoes, some ginger and chili. Its very healthy, and delicious. But when i sleep outside, on winter camping, i found most heating food is baked beans (Heinz caned beans for example) with sausage. It makes you sweaty immediately, even if its cold.

You are so adorable the way you say " Shoesize's " . With that aside your video's are very informative and are definitely thing's Foreigners need to know. Thank You Nao !

Everywhere where tourists go, yes. Japan has a TON of beautiful places to visit that are not touristy at all.

I discovered your YouTube Channel this week and I really like your videos. I am an happy subscriber. ๐ Arigato ! ๐ธโญ

Thank you for your tips, as leaving for a week to Japan in 2 weeks. I am looking forward to the delicious cuisine and sights.

Its so true how things that don't make sense just become normal, in the UK a lot of houses still don't have mixer taps in the bathrooms or toilets. This was because it used to be seperate so needed a seperate tap but even though this isn't true anymore and hasn't been for decades, and kitchens usually have them, even new houses are built without them in bathrooms and toilets.

1:27 the wood work and general craftsmanship in traditional Japanese homes like this is worth the trade off to me. I notice this style of home is going out of style in the bigger cities, but the "aesthetic" they have is very pleasing to most people who didn't grow up in them.

Thank you for watching and comments๐ I knew this kind of video was a bit controversial, so sorry for some of you who feel uncomfortable!

A lot of Americans get a break during the summer, so that's the only time they have to travel. Holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter typicallly are spent with family in the US. That's why people are visiting Japan in the summer.

As a financial mentor here in America, I actually enjoy going to the currency exchange and converting to Yen. It is an experience I love to show my children the difference in cultural consumerism. It is respectful and good etiquette for tourists to adapt to the local customs.

@JapanwithNao you donโt need to apologize, youโre doing great! Keep it up!

No central heating & even drying cloth indoor heater, should lead to strong condensations, specially all windows, damp wood inside, smell & damaging all wooden things inside?
9
Great video as always! It's really helpful to hear the perspective of a Japanese person. A lot of information about traveling to Japan comes from other foreigners, so cultural differences are not always considered.
9
Great video. Thank you for this info. It really helps for planning a trip, as Japan is SO busy now with tourism.

The tip about Tabelog is super valuable- thank you! Beer's on me ๐ป

I am taking a 2 week trip this coming June. Planing to Visit Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, Hiroshima and Hokkaido

We always test the matress before buying. But also, may suppliers have 4 week free return policy. We mainly use matress, but are OK to sleep on Futon in Japan.
9
My first trip to Tokyo is coming up soon. Iโll definitely keep my eyes open for these scams. Cheers

The more times you visit Japan, it becomes less about buying souvenirs and more about experiencing everything Japan has to offer. So for you first time visitors, get your souvenir shopping done but concentrate on the unique experiences available to you. You can contact your AirBNB host (if they speak English) for local experiences in the neighborhood.

Central heating in a well insulated home is cost efficient and healthy.

I know in Canada it's considered rude to have a hat on at the table. It is more generational tho as you see younger men wearing them because it completes their outfit.
8
โ @NihonKaikan electricity is very expensive in Japan and heating takes quite a lot of electricity so yes, kerosene is technically cheaper for them
8
I wish people in USA would follow the perfume rule since quite a few people use it in lieu of showers quite a eye watering experience. That and taking off shoes in planes.
8
Wearing earphones in any restaurant is rude anywhere in the world. ๐คท

The problem really lies with how a lot of tourists just simply do no research on their vacations at all. They just take an itinerary that their social media tells them to do and call it a day. Usually when someone tells me they found a city or attraction overrated, it turns out it wasn't in their scope of interests to begin with. They just went there because someone told them it was a "must see", so they went to get the same instagram pic everyone else gets and then shrug their shoulders in boredom.

we will be visiting Japan for the third time this Christmas. We know that it will be cold, but we live in Arizona and cold is a welcome change. We love Osaka and the towns around that area
8
Completely agree on August. We travel to Singapore a lot as my wife has relatives there. Singโs a very hot and humid place. But the most uncomfortable for me was Osaka one August. The humidity had me drenched and dragging.
8
iโm moving to japan in january! im so excited
8
I like this having several smaller heaters is a good idea.
8
Thank you for always watching our videos! Have a good weekend ๐
8
watching this video while I have already booked my flights to Japan on June. yay.
8
I still think Japan should charge a hefty entry quota (say, 100,000 or 200,000 yen) and impose much more strict visa requirements. Quality tourists over quantity of tourists will benefit Japan. They spend way more and will be better behaved.
8
Even though seeing this video I would still would love living in the country side. I would be okay living in the city half time or couple times in the year. But I'm okay with all these things you mentioned. Thank you for making this video ๐
8
Iโm used to summer Florida weather which is hot, humid, and rain everyday around 4 pm. With that said, Iโll be coming to Japan in July for my first time. Plus, Iโll be celebrating my birthday while there
8
Thanks for the tabelog tip!! super helpful

Another excellent, well-organized and easy to follow video. Thank you! I will say that when we arrived at Haneda, we were exhausted so we did not mind paying 1200yen for a one hour bus ride where we just got to sit with our suitcases in the bus storage the whole time. One thing I did not know and I appreciate seeing it here in the video was how to respond to clerks, etc. who welcome you verbally to their store. Looking forward to the next video! :)
8
I love your winter videos! I wish you a great New Years.
8
I support Japanese Youtubers, keep going bro ๐. I was visiting Japan in 2018 as a tourist for the first time with my family. It was wonderful. Hope to come back again.
