I knew Jackie during middle school when she was in Connecticut before moving to Florida later on. She was a kind, funny, and incredibly smart young lady. If memory serves me correctly, she was academically gifted. She lived in a beautiful home, and her parents cared very much about her schooling. She even came to one of my birthday parties, and I still have photos of us together.
She used to share these Egyptian black liquorice candies with me in class, and she was so impressed that I liked them because “other American children thought they were gross” lol. She was generous with her time and energy, and had a very friendly demeanour.
All this being said, it breaks my heart to see what happened to her, and what she ended up doing due to a lack of proper treatment and care. I knew about what she’d done years ago, but I didn’t know until this video that she died. I’m honestly heartbroken thinking about what Jackie could’ve done with her life if she’d had the appropriate diagnoses and care. This is a very complex topic, and I realise that she caused others to suffer because of her actions and behaviour. I in no way condone those things; I’m simply saddened to see that it ever got to that place to begin with.
I said what I said earlier about how she was as a young lady to put forward a message about mental health - whatever Jackie ended up with wasn’t outwardly presenting when we were young in the time I knew her. I never saw any “red flags” and I was a very sensitive, observant child. I can absolutely see where her particular conditions only became apparent in her late 20s-early 30s, and I wish there’d been some sort of intervention. Mental health is so important, especially for such serious disorders as those mentioned in this video. Please check in with your friends and family, and if they ever start exhibiting signs of serious mental health crisis, please be sure to get that information to the appropriate parties. If you yourself are beginning to think in these sorts of patterns, please seek licensed mental health help immediately. There is no shame in acknowledging these matters.
A note to the creator - I appreciate you covering Jackie’s case in such a respectful, empathetic, and educational manner. Thank you for being a resource for others to understand the complexities and often fragilities of the human psyche.
