I have Hazel Eyes, i am from Turkey. my theory is that Hazel eyes are more frequent in populations who have mixed blue eyed and brown eyed people, as my grandfather has blue eyes and my grandmother has brown eyes, my father has hazel eyes and i got them too. both my father and i are also the only ones in the family possessing hazel eyes, the rest have brown and blue eyes.

  6. Well, I'm 63 and I've never known how to describe my eye colour... till today! I have the hazel sunburst centre, green above and blue/grey beneath. I always thought my eyes were just a confusing mess, now I know that this glorious variety of the spectrum is called hazel, and only 5% of the world have It. Whoopeee!🎉

  11. I lived in Iceland for quite a few years, and their genetic make up is interesting. The men have a Norse genetic inheritance on the Y Chromosome, whilst the women have a mostly Celtic inheritance on the X chromosome. It is genetic evidence of the Icelanders raiding Scotland and Ireland for women.

  17. I also have wondered why the Banshee wasn’t discussed more. When Colm talks about the Banshee, he says maybe she doesn’t wail, but just observes and takes notes, you have to start thinking about all the scenes with the Banshee in it. She enjoys gossip and stirring up trouble. When she is in the store with the lady who enjoys gossip, and then again outside the store, you never see anyone interact with her, do they even see her? When Siobhan is on the edge of the lake, the Banshee is waiving her over, Siobhan doesn’t have shoes on….I think she was contemplating taking her life, but then Dominic ends up drowned and it’s the Banshee who leads his father to his body. I think if you were to watch the movie again, with the Banshee in mind, you would see many little details like these. The inclusion of the Banshee gives the whole story a fable like quality. A brilliant movie…

  18. My eyes are hazel, and it is funny to hear people try and describe them. It's either green or brown, hazel isn't a word in their ocular vocabulary. The best thing about hazel eyes is that our eyes can seem to change color, it really confuses people. For example, when I got my first driver's license hazel wasn't an option in the system so they listed me as brown. A while later when I showed my license they thought my ID was fake cause my eye color was off, they said I had green eyes and wanted to know if I wore contacts.

Not nearly as high as in northern Europe, but on par with the West Asia/Levant section of the map you showed at the beginning. The connection between West Asia, Siberia and Western Europe in terms of genetics is really mind blowing and good to know. Thanks for the info.

  29. Blue eyes are an adaption to CLOUD. Cloudy climates are low-light so light skin and eyes are an adaption. The Inuit don't have blue eyes because although they have low light in the winter they don't live in a cloudy climate like Europe.

  31. Very interesting. Another thing to note is the actual name of the island “Inisherin”. “Inisherin” is a made up name. However note what its made up of:- “Inish + Erin”:- - “Inish” comes from the Irish language “Inis” and means “Island”. - “Erin” of course is an alternative name for Ireland, coming from the Irish language “Éirinn”. So even the name of the island actually means “Island of Ireland”. And of course, the dispute on the island between the 2 men, mirrors the actual civil war, going on in the actual mainland Island of Ireland.

Because I know the history of my ancestors but probably people like you, who don't know that in Spain we have a percent of people that are descendants of merchants that came from 5 centuries ago to Sevilla or Cadiz to trade directly with America through its ports.

  42. Well you forgot to mention that some are born blonde but later at the start of puberty become brown haired blue eyed, I was blonde until I was 6 or 7 years old and then my hair changed to brown. Now I'm grey-brown blue eyed. ;)

  45. I am an American with 100% Norwegian heritage. My mother had green eyes. My father had blue eyes. My brother has blue eyes. I have hazel eyes. My eyes have an outer ring of dark blue. The next area is sage green. Then the inside area is golden. There are also small flecks of burgundy scattered around. The green and golden areas are about even now.
