I can believe that there was a prehistoric connection between Celts and Scythians originating at a very ancient era when the Indo-European tribes were spreading eastward and westward across the Eurasian Continent - we're talking tens of thousands of years ago. But the Scots were Gaels originating in northeast Ireland, who gradually spread into northwest Scotland and the Hebrides over 2 thousand years ago - And the Picts were Britons, whose culture was spread throughout Britain for possibly ten thousand years before the formation of Scotland.

That was excellent, thanks,,also they gave us milk tolerance, the wheel, domestication of horse, and sheet metal teck which they made trumpets and couldrens with

The Iron bru gene, lol
17
I walked out of the theater reading the definition of “banshee” as I knew it had to mean something but yes, why plural? And glad the director gave Siobhan strength and agency.
17
It's said that, Picts are one of the most fierce tribes in history
16
Culturally speaking, there "seems" something more Russian about the 'Skotts' than say, English. Also, Σκοτια/Scotland means dark in Greek; hence Scotland's patronymic as 'the Dark Island'. The Romans, (it is said,) had a Scythian/Sarmatian garrison stationed along the wall, keeping the Picts out.

I am an American of German ancestry on both sides of my family. I was born with very golden blonde hair and blue eyes and retained my blonde hair all my life until I was in my late fifties. It's still blonde but is now a darker shade.
16
I have hazel eyes, green with brown. My ancestors are from England, Ireland, Wales and Italy. Generations are Texans. My parents had brown eyes. Now I know what ‘hazel’ means.
16
amazing history man, really filled in the gaps in my own history and picked up some really interesting facts.
16
I know that the traditional reason given for Breton 'Celticness' is the Saxon advance westward through, what is now, England, but I think it is no coincidence that Brittany is the furthest peninsular from the Frankish advance through northern Gaul; however I'm still with Groundskeeper Willie's opinion on our Gallic cousins.
16
I have hazel eyes and reddish-brown hair. 💚
16
I'm Portuguese from the Azores. Me and my family have done DNA tests and we all show considerable percentages of Irish, Scottish and Welsh heritage (around 25%), which I guess it means Celtic ancestry.
16
Please consider a short video focused on the difference between mainland Portugal and the Azores as a supplement to this fine work. I would also be curious to hear what you had to say about the impact of the so-called Moorish invasion of the Iberian peninsula and its genetic origins.
16
Interesting. My DNA results came back that I am 100% Welsh! My father was from the Rhonda and my mother from Bargoed (both South Wales).
16
Please make videos about the genetic history of Finland, Estonia and the Baltic countries
16
I believe that the redheaded Yamnaya (3,300-2,600 BC) from north of the Black Sea became the Sythians.. Thank you for your work.
16
You're always balanced according to the data, and present it well.
16
Hi! I have Hazel eyes with the Hazel burst and mossy green surrounding. My Mother has extremely dark brown eyes and my Dad has vivid blue like the color of the Mediterranean Sea. I am a blend of Scottish/ Spanish and Native American. Thank you for this informative video!
16
I’m a blue eyed, fair skinned Australian… Descended from Scotland and England and to a lesser extent Denmark and Norway. I struggle with glare and bright light, so this vid makes sense… My eyes and skin have never looked so alive as they did in a frozen Berlin… Definitely something in that.
16
agreed great feckin insight!
16
Maybe dark haired Celts from Britain and Ireland can explain a lot of the black haired Vikings in Viking aged Denmark?
16
The genetic evidence is clear. All Celts are descendants of the Scythians. But so is most of Europe. The genetic unity of Europeans is hidden by the amazing diversity of languages and cultures that have branched out from the source, in a mere 3000 years.
16
So Celtic tribes would have came into the British Isles and mixed with the native population that was a mix of Bell beaker folk who mixed with the farmer folk who had mixed with the earlier Western hunter gathiers? The later Celtic arrivals would have the same genetic mix but in different proportions. I have the Celtic version of R1b.
16
The ancient Anglo-Saxon kings claimed descent from Woden. The Vikings years later still believed in Odin. Cousins fighting cousins.
16
I have a red haired friend that married a blond blue eyed woman. They have two son one red haired brown eyed and the other is red haired blue eyed. We are Asturians (North West Spain)
15
I read a report yesterday saying it's now regarded that grey/gray eyes are the rarest, and green is second rarest.
15
My true ancestry connected me to Danish vikings at something like 5%
15
Great video as always my friend. I uncovered some genetic research for this confirming that groups of scythians from the middle bronze age were carriers of the r1b haplotype ( common to ireland, north britain, wales and west Scotland ) - its mad that a migration that long ago can be retained in the oral tradition for that long.
15
My Ancestors were the Gallowglass fae Dal Riata on ma Da’s side who settled in Donegal after fighting the Normans in Ireland having been deposed from their land after fighting on the losing side of the first Wars of Independence in Scotland.and French Scots on ma Maw’s side as her family were brought into Scotland via England to sort out Taxation. We are all the sons and daughters of immigrants ultimately as this chunk of land was under a huge sheet of ice thousands of years ago and uninhabited by humans as a result.
15
Brilliant analysis of the Welsh. The Welsh generally were darker skinned, dark hair and dark eyes. Have more rounded faces and shorter in height than their fellow british kin. South Wales had a lot of mix from the English over the last century or so so generally lighter skinned and lighter hair, although physical traits of their welsh ancestors is still quite strong. I have noticed having visited all over Wales many many times.
15
The traditional theory is that the Celtic peoples entered Britain and Ireland between 600-450 BC and conquered/assimilated an unrelated bronze age people at a rapid pace. Problem is, archeologists have been looking for centuries for this great ''coming of the Celts'' and have found no significant evidence of a major invasion(s) or cultural shift. Caesar wrote that the southern Kingdoms of Britain claimed kinship with the Gauls, but that the more northern Britons had 'always been there'. Unless you count the origin stories of the traditional British histories of the Britons coming from Troy, there is a strange lack of 'invasion' myths which should have been remembered if the Celts in Britain had only been there 500+ years before the Romans blundered in. There is also the issue of Celtic-like or Para-Celtic languages in Spain long before the supposed Celtic westward spread. Lusitanian and possibly Tartessian languages for example. There is the Greek historical account of King Arganthonios of Tartessos in southern Spain, in/around 600BC whose name is highly Celtic is structure, meaning perhaps 'one of Silver/wealth'. Again, what is a Celtic Kingdom doing that far west that early? The Hallstatt culture origin theory of the Celts needs a revision.

Blue eyes and blond hair are quite common in Western Europe.

So glad you posted this. I'm a Campbell in Texas. My 6x great grandfather was Farquhard Campbell. I can trace back to when he came to the colonies in or around 1752, but I can't find anyone in Scotland who is from his family. The CCSNA told me there were too many Campbells to know for sure. They did find a reference to him from someone in Jura, but that's as far as I got. I know he came over with Alexander McAllister to North Carolina and later married Alexander's sister, Isabella. Apparently she passed away and his second wife, Elizabeth Whitfield Smith was my grandmother and the line my family comes from.
15
I’m loving this series!!!
15
I'm a night owl. I think that it's a case of somebody having to stay up and keep watch. My whole family as far back as anyone remembers have been night owls. My grey eyes are very sensitive to light. I can see well in very low light situations. Moonlight is enough to function without any disability.
15
My Mom's sister had gray eyes and they run in our Stumpf/Kreiger line from Bavaria.
15
Dark Green eyes, medium brown hair. Mostly Scottish and Welsh heritage.
15
Bakersfield, California and surrounding areas has a large Basque population. Great Basque restaurants, too.
15
Scottish Declaration Of Arbroath 1320 AD - “Most Holy Father, we know and from the chronicles and books of the ancients we find that among other famous nations our own, the Scots, has been graced with widespread renown. It journeyed from Greater Scythia by way of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Pillars of Hercules, and dwelt for a long course of time in Spain among the most savage peoples, but nowhere could it be subdued by any people, however barbarous. Thence it came, twelve hundred years after the people of Israel crossed the Red Sea, to its home in the west where it still lives today.”
15
Unrelated, but what happened to the Celts in Iberia?
15
I thought that the masks handing from the ceiling in Colm's home were significant somehow. Padrick puts one over his face at one point. The masks seem out of place yet they don't seem entirely random.
15
As always, thank you for the lesson. My mother said she was blonde until her late teens. Then her hair turned light brown. Her hair remained brown well into her 80's. Then went to silver. I was born with light brown hair. I am 74 and for the most part my hair is still light brown. My sister and three brother's had dark brown hair like my father. Their hair turned solid gray by the time they were forty five. I am always accused of dyeing my hair but I put it down to good genes and living life in the fast lane. My mother had blue eyes. My father had green eyes. My sister, my brothers and me all have green eyes. The love of my life has brown hair and green eyes.
15
I'm Ross, Hunter, Smith, Taylor, walker, Moore, Little, Kerr, and Cochran.
15
My Ancestors came from here, my many many times great grandfather is Beli Mawr of Siluria, his ancestry line can be traced back to Prydain ap Aedd Mawr, who was King of Cornwall. I believe the Silures were Rome’s biggest headache! 😆✊
15
There is a lot of history on two small islands in this world. Thanks for the information. It's always amazing to find out about ones ancestors.
15
My daughter has hazel eyes. My dad had hazel eyes. He was full blood Spaniard. His mom had sky blue eyes. Grandpa had brown. I have brown eyes. My wife Italian has blue eyes. Our 2 sons ended up with brown. One son dark brown other son a lighter shade of brown
15
A lot of good information in such a small amount of time - great work mate.
15
Your videos are very interesting! I also like it that you let us know where you got your information from so that everyone can search things out for themselves. Good job!

The Robertson clan contingent, led by Donald Robertson of Woodsheal, suffered along with the rest of the Atholl Brigade. About half of its men were left on the field of battle. Donald was wounded and left for dead. His younger brothers, Alexander and Charles, both died. Alexander was killed while attempting to cut his way through to his wounded older brother while Charles died later from his wounds.
