You heard her, gents: Practice sexual discipline, don't try to buy scraps of affection, and if you have a low self esteem, don't date until you can sort that stuff out. Then, once you have sorted it out, shore it up. Become skilled. Become self-sufficient. Become self-fulfilled. When you do these things, you learn that you have value, and when you have value, someone seeking only to take away from that value is not a good choice for a partner. Someone who adds to your life - who wants to be there for you - is the right kind of partner. And when you meet them, be the same for them.

Ha, ha, ha, ha. I love your last comment Sara. “….not just your looks, you actually have to have a personality too.” 😅😅😅😅. I must have been zonked out under a rock for the last 40 some odd years, but personality, kindness, honesty, and being present are the most important things I’ve ever cared about. A hot body? Naaaww, see how long that lasts after a few kids and you hit 40. Like Judge Judy always said, “beauty is temporary, stupid is forever.”

I don't want to defend anyone, man or woman that does this, but there is a funny thing that my wife does that explains this: A person is never outside of their own head. That means my wife can start a conversation in her head, and forget that I wasn't included in it until she opens up her mouth. Knowing this, she will sometimes ask, "how much of that conversation was in my head?" If I tell her it was any part unspoken, I do have to sit through the conversation, but at least I get to hear all of it. When she says, "Kiwis are on sale," she had the rest of the conversation in her head, which was a request to buy a specific number of kiwis in a specific range of ripeness at the store where the sale is going on. Should she be mad at him for not hearing the rest of the conversation that went on in her head? No. Will she? If she's emotionally immature, yes. If, like my wife and Sara, she's emotionally mature, she won't get mad at you for not getting all of the story.
We all should be seeking emotionally mature partners. Ladies, if you presume at any time that 'he should just know' or 'I shouldn't have to tell him', you are emotionally immature. I said what I said and I stand by it.

Ladies, before you get into a relationship, you need to fix yourselves. Do whatever you have to do. Go to counseling, get therapy, whatever. But just remember that if you get into a relationship and emotionally abuse him like this, it's not gonna work. He will walk, he will leave you, and I don't blame him one iota if he does. No man likes being denied sex in a relationship, then having his need for it weaponized against him. No man likes being emasculated, disrespected, emotionally abused, and essentially being told that no matter what he does, it's never good enough. If a man makes a mistake or shortcoming, we never hear the end of it. If the woman does something wrong, that's also the man's fault. Don't get me wrong, us men aren't perfect. But it seems like we're always held accountable, whereas am emotionally abusive woman never is. Why would a man knowingly walk into a snake pit?

Minus training, and deployments, I raised my, now 25-year-old, son by myself without any child support. This included my AA through PhD, E4 then retiring out at O4, GS9 then retiring out at GS12, and supporting his Eagle Scout through Bachelors and current career retraining efforts. Throughout the last 20 years, I've only dated four women spanning an average of three years each, separated by two years in between, three of whom were single parents. Of the three, two were divorced and one was widowed. All three managed to use my achievements, being a single parent, and my remaining goals against me, in one way or another. The most recent made me realize generationally learned patterns, that I'm working on breaking. I'm tired of digging through red flags in efforts to find green ones, I have zero interest in raising someone else's child(ren) nor accounting for predecessors mistakes, and now I have the added bit of assets and retirement protection efforts.

My divorce was 4 years long. My legal bill was $500,000 at the end of it. I got the kids, but by the skin of my teeth.
My ex is a diagnosed psychopathic deviate, and despite she abandoning the kids, despite DUIs, etc etc, the judge was looking for any way possible to give her the kids. Through many legal maneuverings and knowing any decision of his I didn't like would be taken the my state's supreme court, he gave up and awarded me the kids.
However, I had to pay her $800/mo in child support, for having the kids 85% of the time.
A poor man will not have a chance in hell in family court unless the baby mom is a disaster. My ex is/was a dumpster fire/train wreck on top of a huge fire ant colony-- and I went through hell. Plus there was the usual abuse/rape allegations.
My brothers-- never marry. If you want kids, get a surrogate. Never share a child with a woman. So many men I know have been destroyed in family court, and don't have any money left to go back when the ex withholds the kids.
