My stressful job just about killed me. Now that I quit, I’m poorer in money but richer in everything else. I have time to read, study, meditate, hang out, workout, be calm, go hiking, go camping, not give a crap, sleep well, enjoy life. Priceless

This was the interview I have been secretly hoping would happen! Because most DOAC interviews are so long, I typically take a few days, listening in 30 min increments. Today, I sat down in front of my laptop, full-screen view and watched from beginning to end, with absolutely no regrets. I am always blown away by Trevor's ability to articulate emotions, complex thoughts and nuanced contextualities. But Steven, having you listen, respond and ask questions only elevated this conversation to everything I never knew I wanted to hear from both of you. My 3 big takeaways: 1. Growing up in abusive homes can make many hypersensitive to those around them and conflict-averse (you don't have to protect everyone). 2. No one who does anything BIG does it alone! (My mentor always says: if you want to go fast, do it alone. If you want to go far, Squad Up!) 3. Make friends a priority. You will never regret it. Steven, you said the bigger the subscribers get, the bigger the guests get. You didn't lie! So glad to be one of your subscribers. One of the best interviews ever! (and that includes the ones with Mo Gadet and Gabor Mate)

I needed this podcast to give me a more structured regime in retaining core strength & mobility. (I’m 61 yrs old)- I was very active, 7/2013, Painting a corner soffit on a 2 story house - the ladder gave way, I fell 15 ft landing on right side, my greater trochanter, ball joint, snapped- herein began my recovery journey from emergency surgery - fractured femoral hip rod & plate at 50 yrs old. I had no idea of osteopenia prevention - until 5 yrs later with severe degenerative bone ossification, spinal stenosis, sciatica, herniated disc in lumbar 3 - Saccrum 1.
Ladies: Educate yourselves, eat clean - lots of cruciferous veggies- eliminate sugar & carbs, good fat meat, fish, intermittent fasting, work out ❤️❤️.

I've been watching for 4 consecutive days now on your channel. I've learned a lot. Write it down, process the thoughts, questions myself about my own opinion about the topics. I'm so glad this platform exist. I've been on the process of knowing myself clearly and being straightforward with my negative traits because I really wanted to change and grow for more better version of myself. I'm 35. And sometimes, I had this regret, because I feel like I've wasted so many years. I wish I had been wise at 17, or 20. I had a lot of trauma growing up. From my parents seperation to failed marriage, to single parenting. Fighting my own darkside while I didn't have any idea how to raise my kids while I had them early at a young age. Looking back, I can say, I'm now in the stage of my life to be really brutally honest so that I can heal. Thank you for this! I really appreciate all the member of the team, even I didn't know them, you and all the guests! Salamat! From The Philippines. ❤❤❤

Incredible interview! As a Spice Girls fan, hearing the things that were shared in this interview was particularly shocking, because I always thought Mel C was the most level-headed, in control, balanced, and overall just the most normal of all the girls, like the one who hyped the other girls up when they needed a cheerleader, always having a great time, brushing negativity off with ease, and overall the most positive and happy! Comes to show you, you never really know what is going on inside someone's head nor their personal battles. If you read this Mel, thank you for your courage and strength to participate in this eye-opening interview! Viva forever!❤️🙏💯🙌

Speechless. Awestruck. I can’t even think of one thing that has kept me on the edge of my seat, completely focused and captivated as much as this episode. I took notes like the nerd I am (nerd is a term of endearment because I love those who are driven to always learn more) and when my hand began to cramp and my writing illegible, I started screen shotting the spots as a time mark to come back and add it to my notes. I love to share what inspires me, opens my mind, what I know will benefit those and impact the lives of imaginable numbers and this is exactly that. This channel is phenomenal, lead by a truly exemplary human being, and as for Mo Gawdat.. three words: I love you. Thank you for being the man you are, You are a gift that this word desperately needs more of. You are insanely brilliant, and you have a way of explaining things so everyone can understand, and you take the time to do so. I have hope to be loved like what you’ve described. I have made a decision to be happy from here on out and it was hard hear but I immediately accept it as so, when I heard you say happiness is my choice alone. What a gift from a truly beautiful human being, inside and out. Thank you.

Usually when I see Dame Dash in an interview, he's usually indignant, extremely arrogant, and has a tone of bitterness to it. But not here. He was a real man here. Still guarded but, open, honest, real, and wise. I love how he goes on about his kids. I love to hear it! His business wisdom.... even though he may not be as wealthy as his former artist, and, might be seen as a failure from that venture, his attitude about everything is commendable. This was a wonderful interview.

The bit that hit me really hard with this was the part where they talked about the education system. I am smart, every one of my teachers recognised how smart I was, however, the conventional system has never worked for me. I can do the works practically, not in theory. Exams, I don’t perform well in them at all, I’ve come out of every exam with much lower grades than my teachers thought I would, even after spending countless hours revising. All of my teachers were always saying oh, you could go on to study at Oxford or Cambridge. The difference being I’ve never wanted that. I don’t enjoy, or see myself progressing in full time education, doing theory work on paper all the time. So now, after a year out of education, I am about to start a new apprenticeship with a £1billion+ company. I can’t wait for this opportunity, I truly believe it will bring me out of my shell. It’s so heartwarming to know that such big role models like Ben and yourself Steven, actually also believe in a lesser known, less conventional way of progressing your life and career.

I really love this episode, especially touching on the point of gut microbiome, which is something that I just came across last year...
So being an overweight female (20 stones) and trying to conceive since the last 8 years it was only after working with a fertility coach and adjusting my diet over the period of 2 months (cutting out gluten, alcohol, sugar, caffeine and dairy products, and increasing other various nutrients) that adjusted my microbiome, therefore improving my cycles, (because previously I'd had irregular cycles and diagnosed with mild pcos), and that was where I was really struggling to get the correct ovulation date in order to conceive. I fell pregnant May 22, and I'm due to have my baby at the end of this month! I also lost some weight in the process, but that was not my goal.
The fertility coach told me it was all about the gut microbiome that was impacting my hormones, and a lot of people do not understand these types of things. So I 100% agree with everything that's been shared in this Podcast and so grateful that this information is getting out there to other people, because there is a serious lack of awareness in this area and the mass marketing messaging out there which is full of BS does not help. Thanks, Steven and Tim, for this eye-opening episode. 🙏🏼🙏🏼💜

Attending one of the top schools in the UK, followed by Cambridge (as Julian Treasure did) - bound to speak well. I went to similar schools/college and I can tell you, everyone around me whether they were introverted or not spoke 'well'. Yes, you can practice and develop confidence. But absolutely, I think we should be honest and acknowledge that you have a massive head start with that kind of education and upbringing.
To add, for me, it's not about how confident someone sounds or how great their voice is (both of which unfortunately do get you far - look at our last ex PM who got away with a lot because of 'the way he speaks') or even how authentic. (You can be really authentic about having an intention that isn't great... power, greed, attention, etc). So ultimately, I think it's content and intention. What is this person saying and why?

MY SUMMARY NOTES (w/timestamps)
Thanks Steve great interview! Was awesome to hear Will's story and how he's still a rider - has given me a solid view of the type of mentality one should have towards taking action, money and running a business regardless of size
01:57
Deliveroo was his first biz
02:33
Be in love with the process
05:45
get yourself in env where things moving fast and ppl are smart
06:05
take chances - opportunities lead to more opportunities
06:55
need to travel and gain perspective
09:20
what made you have this big idea...was the idea even that big then?
09:46
solve your own pain points
10:18
interesting - much easier starting biz that you and your best friend care about and resonate with customers
10:59
focus on making a poof of concept and getting validation from your ideal customers rather than yourself/ppl who arent your customers!
11:31
a biz exists to solve problems NOT create a cool idea!
12:54
witnessed offline to online change
13:17
interesting - your idea or problem you wanna solve may require other inventions and innovations to occur - there's such thing as being too early into a market (think Vine vs TikTok)
15:06
always think about how can you improve be paranoid about your competitors
19:53
grew via word of mouth
no marketing for the first few years just organic growth
20:41
just eat
21:59
the other founders
22:54
haha true - followed close to lean startup model
23:05
true true - was bootstrapping the project - so really had to make sure proof of concept was solid before thinking of scaling!
23:24
"When teams don't have huge budgets they seem to make better decisions"
24:06
when had his back to the wall that was when Steven and his colleagues made better/innovative decisions - sink or swim
29:04
prejudice
32:15
naming of deliveroo
33:46
*****KEY POINT → , not every decision made by a founder was perfect and correct - don't pedestalize ppl just because of their success - view them as a case study and see how you can apply their principles and journey to your own life! Everyone is an example of your own potential
34:59
past CTO Greg who cofounded deliveroo
36:17
as a founder having that core team you grew and started the biz with together is key
37:06
env is so key!
40:21
very process and action biased compared to introspective and planning
41:03
why kept going?
41:55
really interesting story
43:17
****KEY POINT → but then again this will definitely be how most ppl will respond they require real life evidence of success - but the focus should never be on obtaining their validation - should purely come from your customers and delivering value and solving their problems this is your main priority as a founder!
45:29
lean and just grinding on solving customers problems - everything else isn't the main priority
45:45
trust in your ability to figure things out along the journey - you won't really know what you're doing half the time
47:12
exactly right here - he's very process-orientated
process > results build for the sake of solving a problem NOT to seek status - one is a long term approach the other is very short term
50:22
you can never know how your plan will turn out - you just need to take action and go down the path
52:31
damn ok
59:53
anxiety
01:01:18
social media, the influx of information and its effects on anxiety
01:02:04
good habits to have: read, gym, meditate, spend time in nature/ also long walks
01:03:45
Relationships whilst scaling biz?
01:05:17
is there an infinite correlation between happiness and success
01:05:55
A regret of Steve's is that he (maybe) wished he spent more time building and connecting with ppl and building relationships
01:06:32
Do you have your priorities the wrong way?
01:06:34
interesting he's not very retrospective and literally doesn't think about the past (probably implements like mad)
01:07:51
sacrifices and things to expect/be wary of
01:08:19
going public
01:10:23
wow, he's actually still a rider!
but makes sense needs to be on the ground also to still have understood what's going on
01:11:15
able to get exercise, test the app, kinda peaceful, see the restaurants signed up to Deliveroo
01:11:39
prob best place to be → have own business an be wealthy but not famous or widely recognizable - so have the most amount of freedom
01:12:19
aim to get the TRUE experience - you're out in the field testing and analyzing - so don't want to behave in a way that'll bias or contaminate the results/experience
01:12:51
dealing with restaurants who treat deliveroo drivers badly
01:13:19
his thoughts on competition
01:15:57
how to create that same "experience" you get from a nice restaurant online? - Wil's future predictions for the online delivery industry
01:17:00
food is a social and emotional powered industry
01:18:26
Will's relationship with money and what money means to him
01:20:27
he's seeing how his life's journey will pan out and where Deliveroo fits in it
01:22:20
therapy
be proactive in making time for yourself and zoom out on your life and the journey you're on!
01:23:06
you need balance
01:23:53
outro
01:24:13
super interesting point about patterns Steven observed from numerous founder's stories

I found this super interesting, so thank you! I thought both of your responses to open relationships/polyamory, intriguing as well. You both seem interested in these concepts and have both chose to be in monogamous relationships. I'm currently in a monogamous relationship and I'd also feel a stab to the heart if my partner suggested to be open, yet it has still crossed my mind. Do you think we feel hurt/nervous about this idea because the social construct is so deep rooted in us?
Although, I'm beginning to see there is no right or wrong way and we can choose the type of relationship we want (I do realise there is right and wrong, just in the terms of what society deems this to be). I think that communication, honesty, experimentation seems the best way, and as long as you and your partner are open with each other, then surely that's better than guessing, the anxiety and the stress that can appear without these things. I think it's good to learn and grow together. Sometimes this might mean you grow in different directions but that is ok and can be beneficial too.

I listened to your first podcast with Joe, and had followed his journey, and you so wanted him to succeed because you saw and heard his passion for what he was doing, but the governments doesn’t speak our modern day language to move this forward, we all need a mr motivator... and Joe is that, and parents signed up to it because the platforms home with the pandemic made people search for something... ...I’m so glad Joe never gave up and gripped the nation, the world in fact, with such passion and it was, is fantastic... well done all of you guys, it’s about what you love and believe in... Joe you deserved the honour from the queen, you did it with a broken HAND, THAT is dedication to your dream. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💯✅❤️

I agree with you about 'love should be enough' and it's all outdated. However, purely practically speaking (and I'm not being judgemental in any of the following), all of the marriage formality, legal contracts etc. is a leftover from the days when women were men's property and were not allowed to earn their own money. Put simply, marriage was a contract to make sure that men got sex on demand and their households maintained, while women were looked after and children fed, no matter what, especially because in the 'olden days' men were routinely unfaithful. Even now, STILL women are not paid the same as men for the same jobs AND lose massive career impetus when they take time off to bear children. Then, when 50% of men leave, no matter whose fault, while many do pay upkeep, it's very, very common that men don't contribute for whatever reason and it's MUCH HARDER to enforce any payment when you are not married. Most men do, after all, have to set up and maintain another household when they fall in love again. Look at Boris, he must be maintaining about 8 households by now. The marriage contract is much simpler than the ones they have in the USA which is why people get married. Not to mention the tax incentives, paltry though they are!

Put aside the legendary broadcaster, the legendary funny man, the legendary football man, Kammy is simply just a fantastic legendary man, a person who has brought joy to generations, who has entertained and taught us over the years, we all laugh at the banter, but we all respect the man, Kammy, never think you're time is up, you could be totally mute and we'd still scream your name, you've touched us in a way that so few people do, we'll never be able to thank you for your service to us and our beautiful game, nothing but love for you Chris, never become a stranger, we won't allow you too, you're to important to us ❤️
