On top of that he was conscious long enough to hear rescue worker after rescue worker try and fail to get him out and at some point he just accepted his fate. Just thinking about the way that he "went", it's beyond anything I could possibly comprehended in terms of an inevitably slow death.

It’s worth noting that every single incident covered here resulted in multiple changes to aircraft systems, pilot training, maintenance, and flight protocols to greatly decrease the likelihood of a such a failure ever happening again. While not perfect, proper air crash investigation is the reason commercial aviation is the safest way to travel today.

  6. Great video, thank you! A girlfriend and I thought we would take a short afternoon walk up a mountain path with our 2 dogs. Well....we got lost for several hours. It was hot, we had no water, no food. We didn't know which trail to take to get back. We were worried for the dogs not having water as well as ourselves. One of the dogs was a German Shepherd (my dog) and all of a sudden she starts walking down a different trail waiting for us to follow. It was a pretty rough trail she chose but she got us down the mountain and safe. My German Shepherd had a very special dinner that night. Be safe out there everyone!

  7. Some of the rides mentioned here are risky but designed perfectly safe. They truly are perfectly safe when leaving the factory. But their condition and operating safety are unknown when you enter a park or a fair. If any regulations at all, these are often not satisfied and equally often not checked, leading to these horrific and tragic results. That is the reason i honor videos with this theme, since they bring awareness.

  17. For aloha airlines, it was not necessarily the age of the plane, but the number of cycles. Every time it took off and landed, there were changes in pressure that created metal fatigue. The plane did a lot of hops between the islands, so it had more take off and landings, or cycles, then other planes that may have had the same type of mileage. There were other planes that were the same age but in much better condition because they didn't go through as many cycles.

  20. I admit to climbing a railing on the South Rim and jumping about 4 feet from a round rock outcropping to another with approximately 200 feet of vertical drop below. It was 1988 and I was 37. I slid a few inches when landing on the rock and could have slipped off the rounded landing spot. I wonder why I did that. It was my first and only time visiting the canyon. My companion dog, a little white poodle mix, wouldn't go near the edge, even on the safe side of the railing. He had more sense than I on that day.

  22. alaska air 261 didn't invert out of nowhere, the pilots deliberated flipped the plane to arrest the steep dive it was in. the stabilizer was stuck and the pilot made one last attempt to dislodge it and that (unknowingly) doomed the plane. they were commended for their crm and their decision to stay over the water.

  23. I am fellow coaster enthusiast, and I standby calling this video, bullshit. Roller coasters are some of the safest forms of ride there is. DO NOT believe a single thing this man says or from anybody that roller coasters are dangerous, because they are not, and those people are likely saying that for attention or for clickbait. My heart goes out for ALL the people that have experienced such a rare occurrence, especially the ones that have lost family members to it. However, that doesn't mean this is going to happen to you.

  24. My husband and I plus about 15 friends whitewater rafted (with guides) for a whole week down the Colorado. We had 3 giant rubber rafts, and sat on the edges with one leg over the side in the water. We had a “D” shaped rubber thing to hold onto, but hilariously only the guide to our raft was tossed into the river! We looked for good spots along the banks and slept under the stars. I was the only person who brought mosquito netting for my head: highly recommended! At the end of the week we were helicoptered out. I got to ride shotgun, and we were given a 20 min. flyover tour. We ended the trip with all of us going to Las Vegas for the Cirque de Soleil water show. I’ve also climbed down inside the canyon from the North Rim and back up the same day, but I was in my 40’s then and way fitter! The rafting week is WAY more fun!

  25. Visited the Canyon in the early 90s twice, Hiked down stayed overnight at the campground Bright Angel and returned to the south rim the next day. A life time experience, wish I could do it all again..Greetings from Belgium 👋

  26. My sons friend came over for a visit and they were talking about family etc. He said, "My cousin fell off the Grand Canyon." I was like okay sure, whatever. Well come to find out he sure did, at age 8, his family went to the Grand Canyon. He was allowed to go beyond some of the railings and over the edge he went. Just absolutely sickening that this was tragedy was completely preventable.

  27. Odd, the one lagging behind was the first to go down, the ones rushing back to help were next, then one of the two running downhill away from the others was last. The entire group passed through the spot the first one collapsed on, including the survivor, it was as if the straggler had triggered something that then moved downhill attacking the rest of the group, that then collapsed in turn, the last one being farthest from the first victim, when the survivor returned the next day, she was able to pick up supplies from the bodies without further harm to herself. Whatever had caused it had dissipated in a matter of hours, It does remind me of the lakes in Africa releasing toxic gasses when disturbed by small earthquakes that kill anything in low lying areas where it collects. Since this is obviously not the case here I would postulate some type of nerve toxin, possibly the straggler spotted a canister lying on the ground and opened it to see what was inside, if it was heavier than air it would have flowed downhill taking out the nearest first, then the rest, I can't think of anything else including hypothermia that could have taken out the entire group within minutes of each other, providing that the witness is accurately describing what happened. Hypothermia is going to effect each person according to their body mass and condition and all eight seem to have died within minutes of each other and all the bodies in a cluster. It seems to have been something in the air moving downhill from the first victim, even some poison in the food or water would not have had that pattern, the throat clutching seems to indicate something being breathed in resulting in bleeding and convulsions. I vote for the possibly accidental nerve gas theory, if it had been deliberate and monitored no one would have survived, and cleaning up the site would explain the delay in recovering the bodies.

Don't climb over the walls or fences for a cool pic. Drink water. Eat sensibly. Have a plan. Tell people where you're going & when you'll return. Keep track of time. Wear appropriate clothing. Glen & Bessie Hyde ended up in the river. No question. Georgia & Bessie were not the same person.

They are $150-$300 but well worth the piece of mind. Plus its nice to be able to communicate with friends. They have one that creates a hot spot for your phone and you can send normal text messages along with status updates to social media. like a GPS Pin.

  32. Had a near one , we were coming into to land then as we saw the runway there was an immediate power and we started to increase height. The captain came on over the speakers saying that there was a plane still on the runway so he aborted the landing. We were on a transalantic run coming into Gatwick. He got the loudest applause i have ever heard when we landed.

Controllers would do their best to time flights entering the uncovered areas trying to keep airplanes apart. But this job was growing more and more difficult as the number of air travelers increased after the war. It really was just a matter of time before something went wrong. After this accident, a great deal of effort was put into getting 100% radar coverage for the US.

  34. I’m a solo hiker and explorer. It’s so so easy for shit to go tits up. That’s why I’m always over prepared and carrying about 5kg more gear than I really need to accommodate damn near every single thing that can go wrong. I’m not ignorant and I know I can still die out there but hey I’ll die knowing I was as prepared as I could be. If you carry nothing else carry these 4 things 1. Water purification tablets (make water taste like shit but also drinkable) 2. A Life saving Bivvy Bag AND Mylar blanket (keeps you warm and dry) 3. Sharp full tang knife (full tang means a blade and handle is 1 piece of metal) 4. Ferrous rod and striker to start fire (and know how to use it prior to needing it)

According to the Russian sources (people who knew Liudmila) Liudmila's tough love approach included giving her students little amounts of food and pushing them to their limits. Some have said that they have raised concerns about the health of her students who went on hikes with her before this incident, because (even though they survived) they came back completely exhausted and starving. Even though Valya said they were eating fine and weren't starving, well, there's probably no way to prove that now. But here extremely cold weather and snow storm was an added pressure, they weren't wearing appropriate clothes and gear, they stayed where the winds were too strong, their tents flew away and were torn, add to that the fact that the kids already being exhausted and probably starving, the horrible outcome was inevitable.

  44. Just a clarification. Many believe that if there is a failure in the structure of an aircraft, that passengers or cargo, are 'sucked' out of the aircraft. In reality, they are actually blown out. When the cabin of the aircraft is pressurized, and there is a failure, the cabin depressurizes through the hole. Think of it as a pressurized tire. If you puncture the tire, the air isn't sucked out of the tire. Just as the aircraft depressurizes through the hole.
