Thank you for this video concerning the heroism of Nancy Wake. I have read numerous books and have studied history during her work and life in France. Think about it, she married a very wealthy man who adored her but they both agreed to let her fight for the French Resistance. She gave up the security and the lifestyle, to follow her internal drive to fight the Nazis. She never saw her husband again, he was captured by the Gestapo, and was killed, after no revealing anything. Nancy is a true Hero, let us celebrate her success and in our lives, when we need to stand up and do the right thing, let us remember Nancy’s courage and back bone. Be proud for standing up for the right thing, let us all be role models for our immediate family. Thank you Nancy Wake and Virginia Hall, it was an honor to learn your history.

As a former Soviet citizen ,I would like to offer my perspective on on this. I am an American citizen now but my road to citizenship was a long one and my opportunities in the US have been limited due to my background. And I understand this completely. Countries don't occur in nature ,they are artificial constructs and they exist based on certain rules. One of those rules is to protect your own country. If we agree to that then it makes sense why my life has sometimes been difficult .Regardless of your political stance ,as a citizen of a country ,you must put your country first. When it comes to espionage, many of the famous spies that betrayed the US were from the US, however people with dual interests always present an obvious security risk and a country can deal with this in two ways. One, limit access right away explaining why and don't let the person anywhere near sensitive information. Two, understand the risk ,let the person inside the trusted circle and keep an eye on him more strictly than usual. One or the other but never both. Don't make certain enemies on purpose like in the case described in this video. Don't praise and promote the guy ,don't give him pride and hope just to tell him he's an outsider. The personality argument I see in the comments is probably irrelevant because good spies are not normal, narcissistic and sociopathic character traits are good for the job, you just have to make sure that the individual works for you and not the enemy. As the saying goes ,the difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter is whose side he's on.

Yet another masterclass in research, scripting, editing, and production of a fascinating story that, regardless of how well the more engaged or informed members of your channel are with this type of information. Superbly written, superlatively narrated, and gripping throughout; I don't know how you keep coming up with new material, in the same genre, that continues to fascinate, inform, and tantalise.
A day with a YouTube notification of one of your stories is always exciting and I look forward to them now just as much as I ever have, you continue to make the best content in this genre that I have found on YouTube and I am grateful to be a small part, as a subscriber, of that journey. I look forward to the next post to see what you have in store for us next. I won't say "keep up the good work" as it is always unparalleled and utterly absorbing.

Superlative, as always. An exhibition in construct, script writing, delivery, narration, artistry, and editing. I cannot think of a better tribute to the bravery of an operative of His Majesty and a dedicated champion of truth and freedom over tyranny. As always, the art worked in perfect unison with the narrative and was utterly sublime. I always look forward to a new video, this one was everything I expected and more.
Your work in short story format, and the artwork you use, would be a great addition to the libraries at Shrivenham and Bletchley, and my library, obviously. If you ever decide to put your research into a more material format.

Exceptional presentation all 'round. Many years ago, as a SADF, Platoon Leader, on the Natal/Mozambique border, one of my men came into my tent and asked, "Lieutenant, would you like a steak?" I gave him a wry look, but he persisted. "How big?" "How thick?" "Over the coals, medium rare, OK?" I responded with a 'go away' look, but a while later in he walked with a giant steak, around 20 x 12 x 5cm. It was tough, sea-weed tasting, hippo steak. I could chew it, but swallow it, no. A dead certain, US import disaster. 😒

Great audio presentation of Virginia Hall's exploits and life! Virginia essentially ticked all the boxes for Special Ops: going behind enemy lines with no support, sabotage, reconnaisance and even hostage rescue. She did this with, and inspite of some of her male conterparts, and outlasted/bested many of them. "A Woman of No Importance" goes into more details and is definatly worth a read. There are very few people, male or female, who have the necessary qualities, and it's unjust, and frankly a waste of talent, that she had to fight so hard to be taken serisously throughout her life. I wonder if it was the relativley recent promotion of women like Victoria, Nancy Grace, and Odette Sansom that factored into the SAS and SEALs finally opening their doors to females.

Well, on a football (soccer) team it's quite common to use left-footed players on certain positions. In close combat sports, it can be an advantage to be left handed, because it's difficult to defend your own hitting side, and the left handed people are more used to doing just that. In tennis and badminton it's also often an advantage, also because right handers are not used to it to the same degree as left handers.
Also, don't forget to mention that Arabic is taught strictly to be written by left hand. Also Chinese historically wasn't a left to right system.
There's been lots of claims about intelligence and personalities of left handers... I believe it's difficult to find any hard evidence of a difference.
Anyway, I'm strictly a right hander, for full disclosure, but I've grown up with the European dining table layout, so you won't see me switching sides for knife and fork all the time, as is quite common with the American layout.
Cheers!

I know that I'm echoing another comment a little bit, but my dear Phillip, I have to say that your writing skills are head and shoulders above most any other YouTube channel I've seen. To be more precise: most any other content creator of any kind, regardless of platform. I wonder if you could be added into Nebula because you're quite perfect for that environment. Anyways, so many people go with the, shall we say, blunt "unalived", which was a bit funny when it started but now it's.. well, this comment is about you, not everyone else. You're so skilled at weaving not just a painting with your words, but a breathing mobile literary hologram with which we can insert ourselves.
I hope the holiday season finds you well, warm, and healthy. Cheers my friend, and a happy new year to you too!

@PhilipThompson I sure wish these people had given time stamps! Because so many people are all saying it. I wasn't planning on watching this today, but now I feel I have to just to find out!
Edit: I have solved it! LOL! In a number of cases, when you say an event occurred in 1930 something, it does sound very much like you are saying it was in 1950 something. I'm usually the very 1st person to get angry at Americans for their bigotry and laziness in always expecting others to accommodate them, but in this case, if I hadn't read the comments and your replies first, I might also have thought it was an error. So I hate to say it, but it might be a good idea to write a comment explaining, and pin it to the top of the page, and then in future videos you can just be aware that you need to articulate the dates in the 1930s very carefully. Perhaps also dates like 1813, 1815, 1913, 1915, 2013, and 2015.
But don't go back to the AI narration! ROBOTS voices are universally hated! I love your accent, and nearly all accents. And I think that accommodating bigots is wrong. They need to get used to the differences between us. But I don't think that in this case it is necessarily the case that these people are bigots, when they are only saying what they heard sounds incorrect.
So please do keep narrating videos yourself! With that one exception, you are doing a really great job! One person even put your work right up there withthe BBC, and I do think it's every bit as good as that, so please don't let people think that your research is faulty, as more than 1 person said. I truly don't think that they are just trolls who are trying to hurt you, and as I said at the start, I'm the one who would be first to jump on them for it, if that was the case. It's just a case of pronunciation. I hope this helps you a little bit, to know that the ones who complained are actually justified in thinking you have the facts wrong, because the pronunciation of those dates is really very ambigious, to the point that to an American ear it does sound wrong. I say this in all sincerity, to try to help you.

Negligence or outright treason and betrayal, a deliberate sacrifice of operatives in the field?! Calling it negligence would mean overlooking a few missed warning signs and transmissions, but when ignoring pre-agreed codes and alerts becomes routine, it reveals a clear pattern of deliberate betrayal. Interestingly the RAF recognised something was off. They noticed the pattern and grew suspicious, even without direct knowledge of the transmission issues being reported. Meanwhile, the intelligence community, whose very job is to detect and interpret warning signs, somehow "missed" the most blatant and obvious red flags. Coincidence or something far more sinister?! 🤔
Awesome content as always.Thank you for keeping these stories relevant and ensuring history stays alive.
P.S.
For some odd reason, when I hear the name of one of the protagonists in this story Hubb Lauwers (codename: Ebenezer) it reminds me of Alec Leamas from "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold". The pronunciation of their last names is similar, and I can’t help but associate Lauwers with Le Carré’s fictional character. Interestingly, Leamas was also a member of the SOE and was active in the Netherlands during WWII. Was John le Carré trying to tell us something? 🤔🧐😁😎
