1:06 of course the vikings had to retort to oral tradition for everything since they couldnt write if they lives depended on it. yes they had the runes but most of the stuff that we know about them is because the monks that arrived there wrote down most of their costumes/traditions . 1:43 now thats comedy GOLD. love the caricature weird the beer hood didnt start a bank instead lolol

Blood chilling story for sure a man so bitter that even in his after life he kept pestering those around him, makes you wonder if he still roams that valley or has he found peace without people begin around

A really good video, adding to what I learned maybe 30 or 40 years ago watching documentaries about the Vasa and the sinking of the Crown - the odd little discrepancy but really good - thank you. Baltic history is so very interesting to an East Anglian ( originally a seafarer from Liverpool)

I am decended from these early Swedish ancestors and the newer one's in the late 1800's. My maternal grandmother's parents were both born in Sweden and immigrated when they were children with their families through Boston. My maternal grandfathers side has been in America much longer. My sister found records showing an ancestor shipwrecked in the Delaware, when she came ashore she was captured by the Native Americans, sent to New Amsterdam who sent her back to Sweden. Her husband died in the shipwreck.

Say that loud to your Muslim neighbors down the street

I wonder how they fought, their battle tactics, I really wanna learn more about this period in scandinavia. Sadly we dont have much sources or even books from the Nordic bronze age, they do however have rock carvings which is awesome.
7
Great video! I learned a lot. I'm surprised you didn't mention mummia. In arabic the word means pitch or resin, and people used it to poultice wounds. Even today I gather sheep shearers use it to seal wounds made by careless shearing. Unfortunately at some point along the way someone decided it referred to egyptian mummies and kicked off a tradition which lasted a few centuries of using powdered dessicated human flesh in poultices.

Makes you really appreciate that you were born in this modern era, jeez.

👍👍👍

Can you do a video about Nordic countries before Viking age?

This is such fascinating and rare information, presented very well. It deserves much more attention. Thanks heaps for making these!

I live in Stranraer and a couple of years ago, I was involved in the making of a Fair Isle skiff, for the community. The similarities between "Loch Ryan" as she was called and the Nydam boat especially are quite striking, even though the Stranraer boat was built from a kit of plywood parts. Absolutely fascinating. Excellent video.

I rebel against God. Let's see if Lucifers reason is as good as mine. "Be good to one another or fock off." The Gospel acording to Thomas Doubting 1:1

This is one of the best videos I've seen on YT, fascinating, well researched and delivered with aplomb - thank you! One thing that occurs to me, given the apparent scarcity of early Norse religious items, is that it could well be that "Norse" culture was seen as fashionable or appealing in some way, and so copied. Just because you have Norse artefacts doesn't mean you have many Norse. This would mirror a debate in the UK over the extent of Anglo-Saxon migration in the C5 & 6. Could I offer one small pronunciation correction to your otherwise excellent English? The word 'comb' is pronounced " kəʊm " or 'kohm'. The 'b' is not pronounced but the 'm' is extended in length - a bit like 'mm' for expressing agreement or consideration. The pronunciation you used was like the word 'combe', which is Brythonic word for a valley, especially one near the sea.

on further research to find out who dug the black sea 😂. thank you! please dont forget gunpowder videos.

Ahh.. Sweden's brief foray into great power status They rightfully learned it's not worth it and only serves as a vessel to fuel leaders pride and ego.. Like napoleon III

You have no idea how much your music choice improved this watching experience for me. You chose Soule's absolute best for this. His Solstheim tracks for Dragonborn hold a special place in my heart. It was so pleasant to learn something new with music that lovely playing in the background.
6
Good stuff again. A Good take on a complicated and very interesting subject.
