Right to the point, several examples, advance cases, clear, nice amount and level of comedy and steady rhythm. You have a forever place in my hall of awesomeness. đ

Welp, didn't watch far enough into the video to see you mentioned them. lol I just love the model m and wanted to make sure it got mentioned. Sorry about that!
8
I love clonezilla, I miss Norton Ghost.
8
Your videos are always so informative and fun to watch at the same time. Thanks! I've been running Arch and Arch based distros for years now. It's hard to ignore the freshness. LOL

back in 1980 my company allowed me take home a modem to dial-up the companies big DEC-10 machine. My fellow group house people spent many hrs. connecting to the DEC-10 playing the classic game 'Adventure trying find the Gold goblet. We even had maps of all the different routes we had tried for the capture. Since I always had access to these Big machines I did not need these little pc's.

Aww. The mention of dd (complete with syntax on screen for the curious experimenter) warms my old heart. That said, I fully agree with leaving it off the main list for your stated target audience of beginners starting from Windows. (P.S. I'd make this comment more opinionated, but I've forgotten the conv= parameter syntax for that and I don't have the man page up. Was it conv=toxic ?)

I have been using Linux since March 93 and as a totally blind user I find the terminal efficient, easy to use and it lets me do a lot of the heavy lifting tasks that would be difficult in the GUI. I do use Windows and the NVDA screen reader as too many emails contain attachments that are not easily viewable in the terminal and sound editing is easier in the GUI, never got the hang of Ecasound. I use the shell in windows as well, never really made friends with the mac although the last one I had was back in 2007, the terminal was nice though.

Hi Veronica. I love your warm, reasonable, and inclusive approach to videos. You are a shining star in a turbulent world. I'd love to support your patreon but as I'm on a fixed income it's tricky at the moment. Anyway, keep doing what you do and keep being awesome.

Your cgp grey levels of alliteration were not unnoticed!

I love Clonezilla! We use it all the time at work, added it to our pxe sever, so it's super easy to deploy, and save images to an nfs share. Thanks for sharing one of my favorite tools?
8
I really love how you explain things. It's so approachable and simple. You treat everything as if someone would windows applications and I can tell this channel would be awesome for everyone just making their move to linux
8
This was really great! I've noodled a tiny bit on Commodore emulators, but never the real deal. I'm really glad you went through what each section of each command does, instead of just typing them in or telling someone what to type. I also love that you go through the device's ports, switches, and peripherals. A lot of videos assume we already know this stuff, but these things are decades older than a lot of us, and they're hard to get your hands on today. Awesome video! I'm really glad I found your channel!

Would love to see a video on the history. I wish I'd found this channel when I was a newbie. I still appreciate the content for being comfy, and sometimes covering something I've missed.
8
This video was so delightful. I would love to see more retro computers videos. How to use them with more modern displays and loading software on a c64 today.
8
Neat!!
8
I could not live without Clonezilla.... It is awesome.
8
lmao love the broken windows wallpaper đ

4:38 - a little tip: it's good to use timeshift to create a time in point backup of your running system, so if something mess up you can rollback.
8
Great video! And I even saw people I know! It was great meeting you also!

new subscriber here, I love your style and personality :). I started using Linux 3 1/2+ years ago and I love UNIX-based distros now! they're so fun! ah man I remember burning disks... and I did that a week ago to try to install Linux on an ancient IBM ThinkPad.
7
I saw on the right side of the screen that you are teaching yourself machine language. Good for you. My first machine language programming experience was on a Univac mainframe back in 1974. Most fun I've ever had on a computer to this day.

VERONICA IS AWESOME

I am SO Looking forward to more Amiga content in the future, my mom learned a lot about computers from the Amiga and it was the first computer i had the fortune to use! You;re right, that black case looks beautiful! Thank YOU for being so awesome!

comments: BUT dONt YOU knOW vENtOY iS tHe BESt! iTs The bEsT Keep up the good work Veronica!
7
awks syntax is hella awkward
7
I love your visual example, specifically the iPhone section. I also noticed your boombox appears to also be a TV. I tried using some smart TV apps on a 1940s TV (coincidentally also an Emerson) and ran into some slight issues.
7
tbh I love ur content. U inspired me to try Debian and nuke Windows. Now it has been a wonderful Journey from Debian to Final Destination "Arch Linux". After using arch for about 1 yr there is no way back to Windows. Linux is my Home now.
7
Amazing video Veronica :)... I too know so many people going through tough times at the moment, I'm not sure what going on in da world but keep strong and keep making such wonderful content. Live long and prosper đ
7
All great options. I can't imagine a better method than the ones mentioned here đ
7
@VeronicaExplains I'm here! (I think my other comment got nuked) Ventoy is great, but there's questionable binary blobs which got people pretty sussed out after the whole xz debacle. (See Issue 2795 on Ventoy's GitHub, there's still been no response from the devs)
7
Yet another wonderful video. Because of one of your videos I decided to give Pop!_OS a try and have been using it regularly. It's great for my situation, but it's not like other distros (or OSes) are garbage... it just has some features that I was unaware of before your video, and I happened to like what it provides. Others will have different preferences and it's all good. Anyway, thank you for highlighting strengths and weaknesses of things you talk about in an entertaining, informative and enthusiastic but non-super-preachy way.
7
Goodness I appreciate videos that do not do the classic social media divisiveness approach. Itâs OK to be fucking different !!!! (I love the fact that people ARE not all the same. If we were it would be like the link layer of networking)
7
I really love when content creators make videos without annoying background music. I know everything you mentioned in this video, but I'm still watching carefully. Your way of explaining, and the speech is like a great teacher. ⤠From INDIA. Keep posting. Subscribed with bell đ icon.

Lover your stuff. Keep doing itâ¤

And Thank You for providing an ability for the VCFMW YouTube panel to be viewed - I met many of the panelists (and participated myself) at VCF Southwest.
7
Great to see you back, Veronica! I'm looking forward to videos from the new space about fun and quirky old operating systems and programming languages. Plus more Linux tips! I understand.
7
Ha! You managed to do it again (teach me something new I didn't know about a Unix/Linux command): that the -h option (which I've used for years with the df command) also applies to ls! Hooray! Linux is awesome, and so is Veronica! :-)
7
Nice news on the SSH updates. While there's no problem if both client and server run a modern version of openssh, it could be confusing to connect from modern to legacy system (e.g. an OpenWrt router which hasn't been sysupgraded for years), but all can be done with some knowledge and google-fu. Hey, nice to see the creator shoutout! Who knows, maybe I'll end up there someday :D
7
So much fun hanging out with you there! See you next year!
7
Just wanted to thank you for this. Extremely helpful. You are an awesome presenter/teacher!
7
"Waist of time", my mental picture went hourglass âłđ
7
A small and great pill of knowledge! If I may add a sugestion (as a non-patreon), SSH is a very important program for most system management, and we can use it to play remotely with a raspberry pi (which is another interesting piece to learn with in itself)
7
"For some reason you're blurry." "That's just me naturally" lmao
7
@VeronicaExplains As I reach for my ibuprofen... lol
6
"Its bridged to matrix" got a bigger laugh out of me than it should've, always love to see it though.
6
Of course Iâm still watching!
6
Uhhh they didnt even have optical media in 1900 so....ah... [trails off as I realise the turn if the century was 24 years ago]
6
VerROMica explains?
6
I love it when I learn of Linux commands that are already installed on my system that do exactly what I need!
6
Why are people spamming ventoy, while i do agree its a great tool but i had a fair share of issues with it on older devices and this is a beginners tutorial, ventoy installaton / usage is NOT beginner friendly Also as a sidenote i dont really like balena etcher as it is weird about telemetry, i think fedora usb writer thingy is good enough and rufus for windows, but im more here for your humor and wit than anything else :)
