The US pledged to support Ukraine. They didn't have to but they did. No one ever expected that the US would ever try to exploit this Ukrainian reliance on the US. But now they did exactly that by essentially bullying Ukraine into signing the minerals deal. The US gave aid to Ukraine. It was mostly old stuff that had sat in some storage base in Arizona for the past 10 years and things like rockets close to their expiration date. The US literally saved money by disposing of these assets for free and simultaneously got new jobs for the defence sector. They profited so much and yet they want to retroactively charge Ukraine for this aid? How the hell do you even justify that? If I gave you a gift and then asked you to pay me for it months after I got it, would that be acceptable? Would you say that you have the right to ask me to pay for the gift you gave me? It's Donald Trump and J.D.Vance that are screwing things up, not Zelensky. Zelensky was very reasonable throughout this war. And after he thanked the US, Trump switched sides while claiming it's because Zelensky didn't thank him?

The point is to uphold international law and protect internationally recognised boundaries. Only after that would any new referendums on autonomy be held or simply that people do as they should and use their vote to decide their country's future policies and understand that not everyone gets the leader they want.
