  1. Slam dunk it's an awesome anime. I am a 42 years old italian, and I grew up watching Hokuto No Ken. Storyline is ebt messy but I think it had a powerful message. Japan recovering from world war, and value of friendship and love and some crazy deadly martial arts. My favorite character was Juuza of the clouds. I think they should have given him a larger portion I'm the manga and anime. His last fight with Raoh, was legendary, his fighting spirit still carried on even after death earning Raoh' s respect.

The Jamaican gentleman is 100% -- if you don't stand out badly and accept the social norms of Japanese society, you blend in (despite the obvious exterior differences) and people appreciate that you aren't trying to be difficult or defiant for the sake of being "different". In contrast with some European countries and especially in the US, everyone tries so hard to be different and is so obsessed with attention seeking that they become almost menacing and hostile.

  9. I used to work for a Japanese company but I was based in Singapore. I think one aspect that contributed to this overwork culture is also people thinking they have more than 8 hours a day to work. So the pace of the work became slower sometimes as they/I paced the work for a day over 10-12 hours instead of 8 hours. 😅

  10. Please interview more people by demographics. Not just nearby but by age or kind of job or hobbies or whatever and go to different parts of Japan with it. Soooo many combinations and questions you can ask people. Keep the great work going and enjoy your trip.

  14. I appreciate your videos about mixed people in Japan. Could you try to interview some people with Japanese fathers and foreign mothers? Almost everyone you’ve interviewed so far has a Japanese mother, because that might be more common. I think it would be really cool to hear the opinions of people with the different combination, and to represent those people, too.

  18. Takashii, she was very interesting and I think you could have spent a lot longer time interviewing her. I wanted to hear much more. If you are not afraid to go deeper, it’s much more interesting to listen to their life experiences and really dig deeper into their feelings and perspectives. For a good model on what types of questions and how to go deeper, I would suggest looking at the Halfie Project videos for ideas. I like the direction you are going and it’s more interesting than dating questions. We all can really relate to cultural challenges. Thank you

  21. I'm surprised about the amount of Iranian/Persian people you usually find in your interviews, including half Japanese-Iranian people. It's a country that is relatively distant from Japan and you usually don't see people talking about it when it comes to Japan-relationships.

I grew up in a county side of Osaka and foreign people were rare for me but now I am living in Tokyo, there are so many foreign residents and they blend in naturally. I hope foreign people(or mixed people) feel more comfortable to live anywhere in Japan🥰✨

I’m Canadian, and she was there studying and yes, looking for a guy as well. 😆 And also like that couple, we came back to Japan expecting to only stay here for a couple of years before moving back to settle in Canada again. But… still in Japan 20 years later!

There is a lot of history between the LA Hispanic and Japanese communities, given the Japanese internment during WWII and how that shifted community demographics. A lot of my cultural identity was lost through acculturation, and I'm just recently trying to reconnect with my cultural roots. Thank you for this video!

  31. Thanks, you always ask really good questions and get the best out of your interviewees. One guy mentioned honne/tatemae and this has come up in other interviews. I think you could do more about these kind of distinct Japanese values and ideas - asking foreigners if they have ever come across them and been surprised by them, and asking Japanese people to give everyday examples of how they work, in the family, social life, workplace etc. .

  32. Wow, blown away by this man, I always knew Chicano culture was somewhat popular in Japan but I've never met a Japanese cholo so this was the most definitive Japanese cholo I have ever seen! He has completely assimilated into the culture while retaining his own Japanese culture. As a Chicano myself, we love Japanese culture so this is very fascinating, great video, Takashii!

  33. as a half-japanese, half-filipino person living in america, seeing videos like these, from people that have both similar, and differing experiences as i do, is so genuinely interesting to see. i relate a lot to them honestly, especially in the aspects of not feeling connected enough to my japanese half/wanting to connect more to that side of myself (since in my household, my parents decided to raise me to identify a bit more with my filipino side in comparison to my japanese side. even though my mom is japanese/is fluent/would talk to me in japanese/etc., she still grew up in the philippines). however, as much as i want to live in japan, i've also always been very afraid to, since i've always felt as though i'm "not japanese enough"/would get viewed negatively as a "hafu" or, once again, "not japanese enough" if i were to live in japan (i definitely have experienced the weird looks many times when i visited). so, seeing this video feels very...nice, yknow? gives a bit of insight on how it would be for myself if i were to potentially move there one day. so, thank you so much, takashi-san!

  35. Coming from Australia, Tokyo (and Japan) is super affordable imo. I was just there and hotels were $50-60 a night and you can get by with meals that are anywhere between $5-10. It's insane. Even train trips are generally below $3-5 a trip. I love Japan so much!

As someone who's been working and living in Japan for years, Japanese people are made to stay late at work, but this by no means indicates they are actually working hard. People can be inefficient here and waste a lot of time. All that time wasted on a company who will never give you a raise. They care too much about what other people think.

  40. Living for a year in Japan with my girlfriend, we wondered the same thing. The explanation we came up with was that many single foreigners are men. Working holiday visa or tech jobs for 30 years old engineers seem to be mostly done by men, and so there is simply just way more men than women living abroad. When we came back to Paris, we also thought that we saw way more Japanese men going out with french women than Japanese girl with french men. So if our theory is right, it's just that binational couples usually start in the girl's country. As for now, I do have in my close friends two couples with a french man and a Japanese woman living in France (Paris and Nantes), but they all met in Tokyo, in Shimokitazawa 😉

  41. This video was of particular interest to me, since both of my daughters are 'half Japanese'. It's really interesting to see different people's experiences with this. In my daughters' case, they mostly like the extra attention they get, but sometimes get irritated as well.

  42. I’ve lived in Japan for 22 years. My wife is Japanese. I never thought it was “tough”. I mean even dating in the US, every girl felt like they were totally different so dating Japanese girls never felt that different.

This was a minor thing, but when I was there, I was surprised that a lot of public washrooms don't have paper towels or air dryers and you are supposed to have a hand towel with you. But I ended up really liking mine and the different styles you can get them in. I still have them and use them, especially skiing when my nose runs (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)

Hello, Here in Brazil we have so much admiration and respect for Japan and its people, we think they are so polite, we have so many tributes to Japanese culture, like literally a completely Japanese neighborhood in downtown São Paulo, several temples (very beautiful by the way) and several restaurants throughout my country, we also have the largest Japanese community outside of Japan, where you can see some statues honoring the japanese, several events honoring japanese culture, i studied with japanese here and had a lot of contact with them, it is common in my city to see descendants. and it is also very common to find people in Brazil who want to go to Japan and who love its culture. But it saddened me a lot to know that my country was not even remembered in this video... :c.
