  6. Before Russia (then Sovietunion) discovered oil in the 1950s, they had economy reforms allowing small businesses to establish as they realized that their planed economy isn´t working. And their economy improved. But then they discovered the oil fields and started selling crude to the West (Europe), so the reforms were stopped.

  9. My father was from Czechoslovakia. Born in 1914. He told stories of how when Germany was busy moving into Czechoslovakia and later it was overrun by Russia the people in Prague and other cities only survived because they still had families living in the countryside that sent them food. Since then I have often wondered how Britain would survive in such circumstances, with so many city dwellers who have long ago lost any links to the countryside. And likely not enough countryside anyway.

  13. Mark, that was quite fascinating. Specifically, in the very long time that I have been watching reality, I have concluded that history is a very important educator. I think it was an american philosopher, Santayana- often quoted by Churchill - who said "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". I stand to be corrected, but I think Churchill's take on this was "those who will not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them". Just for the record, I don't think it is essential that you are exactly right about the parameters or the timeline. More important that you provide a plausible, logical and interesting explanation for reality.

  14. From what I´ve read Trump said that it will implement tariffs if BRICS created a new currency. So it´s for the dominance of Dollar, not the downfall of Russia. I thinik Trump is not sophisticated enought to be "gambling" and certainly not moral.

  21. Russia has a large land area but in terms of arable land it is smaller than the United States and India. In terms of exclusive economic zones it is smaller than France, United States and Australia. In terms of population and GDP it is smaller than ... well you get the picture. In reality Russia is not even close to being a major power.

  23. I see parallels between Russia and Venezuela. They lost access to Western and local expertise thanks to it fleeing. They also lost their access to parts and technology due to sanctions. Soon they couldn't keep pumping out much oil and things got really bad. Despite China's help they could not turn this around.

Yesterday I watched a documentary on YouTube where parents and grandparents said they were giving up all kinds of meat and other expensive products, in order to give them to their children and grandchildren, who needed them more than they did. All because of rising prices, while salaries remain the same. Another great success of Putin's Special Military Operation.

I listened to another Youtuber from Russia yesterday i think his name is Constantin and he explained how the mayor of the town thats floded now because of corruption and neglect had apartments in both SaudiArabia and Dubai because of stolen money from the building of the dam that had broke, and the most stupid thing was that nobody is going to do anything about it because the whole system is so corrupt. one more thing is that they are talking about the decadent west how everything is so bad here but all there children get there educations and live in London or Paris, The hypocricy is monumental.

  45. Mark, I am 79 and going strong. I couldn't agree more that life is short and money is to used for fun. I was a professional by day and biker by night. I remember all the other folks wearing ties and being so serious and having NO fun, saving for the "golden years" and I was burning my cash having fun. I don't regret it one bit but did save enough for a decent life now (I still ride my Hog). I encourage all you younger folks to HAVE FUN now. I guess my genes are good as ALL my friends are dead but they all burned the candle at both ends but am sure they would do the same again. Have fun doing your thing in FL. Oh, I think Russia, from what I have seen, is really a horrible place to live.
