  19. I wish everyone realized this instead of glorifying homeownership as the holy grail. The decision to buy a home is complicated for all the reasons Jaspreet described. Please take note, people. Renting isn't bad if you do it wisely whilesimultaneously saving and investing. I know so many people who are "house poor" because they've been told homeownership is essential. My family is from Mexico and we’d drive from the USA across the border and I’d see the little kids, four years old, selling items alongside their moms to them go live up in the mountain, away from the foothills, under little metal shacks and concrete. As I child that brought perspective. We’ve always been well off here, but we’re extraordinarily wealthy to someone who doesn’t even have potable water, consistent food, electricity or a warm home to go to.
