I love this episode SO much. I studied 3 Unit Ancient History as high school in country NSW, in 1978-1979. I adored it. Happily I won the History Prize, and with the funds I bought a copy of Robert Graves book I Claudius. The 1976 TV series was probably shown in Australia circa 1977, so I was immersed in Claudius! When I went to Sydney University in 1980 I enrolled in Ancient History but was turned off by the emphasis (as I saw it) on Marxist interpretations. Naively I thought 'What does politics have to do with studying history?!' So I swapped to Medieval History where there was no talk of political theories! And ended up getting a PhD in Old Norse Language & Literature. But I do still love Ancient History. I haven't read Suetonius since 1979, so I reckon it's time to go back - with this new edition!!
